I have just ordered a 2700 rail has anyone got any good designs for homemade carry case for it ?

I shipped one from AZ to Florida recently. Major PIA  :).

I used 1x2's to make a frame. 8' extended to a bit over 9' using Dominoes.

If I were making it for repeated, long term use, I would have skinned it with Luan plywood, hinged the top.

It is one long dude, even without the case. I would take some measurements of the vehicle you intend to use to transport it.

Would hate to see you 'build a boat in your basement'.

You might want to check with the London Zoo.  They may have received a python or anaconda shipment recently and have retained the crate.  Just be sure there is no fecal matter left inside.

It will come in a shipping box. It's rough but I kept it to store my 2700 rail in. Just pulled the staples out of one side and I store in in the rafters.
The first thing I made for my Festool purchases was a box for my other rails. These go to job sites and need protection when in transit. This box holds 2 FS 1400 and 2 Fs 1080/2LR32 rails. I just put some foam on top of the last one before closing the lid.

I just use the rail bag with the smaller rails and its fine, I think I will make a hinged type box for the 2700 one.
Hopefully its gonna be going in a new VW T5 panel van if the credit crunch doesnt hit me, so plenty of room but I might have to have a hole in the bulkhead for the rail.

Same dilemma I have.  My stuff needs to survive being transported in the back of a ute.

Instead of one long rail I picked up another 1400 mm to compliment the one that came with the saw.  Yeah it can be a pain, but damaging a rail would annoy me more.

In the process of making a padded case to carry both of them.  Essentially an oversize (padded) pencil case with a divider.  Posted my progress in member projects if anyone needs some inspiration.  Not overly complex if u have access to a heavy-duty sewing machine.

I use the box that came with my rail. The box that came with my rail was made with a wood frame sandwiched between 2 pieces of masonite.
I took one end off & slide the rail in the end. I did add some screws around the edges. It has worked out very well.
