I picked up a secondhand jig in good condition but the guidebush was missing. All the documentation is there and I can buy 711TP or 716TP online, but I cannot see how they will work with the plate supplied with the router. Brimarc's catalogue suggests a 493566 adaptor is required but I cannot find a reference to this on the Festool site and cannot picture how it would work. The 1400 is my first router and so far I have only done edge profiling and freehand cutting.

Can anyone help please? Drawers for a kitchen table await my attention...

Thanks from Aberdeen

The 493566 accessory is a universal holder for the majority of the universal threaded style copy rings for template following. Each festool router has one to allow you to use your existing sets if you already own one.
The of1400  comes with one look in you systainer and should work fine if you can locate the copy rings you specified for your jig.

You can use the porter cable style guide templates with the snap-in insert that comes with the 1400.  Some have reported problems with getting these truly centered on the 1400.  I think it is the 7/16" od one that is needed for the leigh D4.

morag,

that's the right Festool part number, the guide bushing adaptor. It now comes standard with the router. It attaches to the bottom of the router and the guide bush attaches to it.

unless you're planning to make huge dovetails the 7/16" bushing will do it.

I would highly recommend getting 2 of them from Leigh. Their bushings have the proper length to engage the fingers in the jig, most guide bushings do not. They are also perfectly centered, some others are not. I say 2 of them because your life will be much easier if you can set up 2 routers, one with the dovetail bit and one with the straight bit. If you're only planning half-blind then this doesn't matter.

You also want to be sure to use 8mm bits. When their intructions say 'use this size bit with this size guide bushing' they mean exactly that. you can't substitute the same size cutter and try a 1/2" shank with the larger bushing. It won't fit.

Here's a link to their current guide bushing/router bit/router chart.

Thanks for these replies, I did get the part no from the chart, but sadly outside North America it seems you have to buy it separately.  I am still searching for a supplier.

Does anyone have a pic of what the part looks like? I imagine it is round with a couple of flanges like the copy ring but does it have a small recess for the guide bush? A little knowledge is a dangerous thing...

Thankyou

Here you go...

This is imperial. i know Leigh has a metric version of the jig. Not sure if that also applies to the bits and bushings. Being outside the US, you may want to go metric across the board.
