Guiderail Hose Anti-Snag Device

While watching Festool YouTube Videos this morning I got an idea about an anti-snag device. The person in the video was using his track saw and kept having to adjust the hose and power cable during the cuts. I have been there and done that a number of times. My wife fabricated a cord wrap similar to the one Festool sells which helps quite a bit.

I used the 2 guiderail connectors which I seldom use anymore. I cut a piece of scrap vinyl trim about 12 inches long. The width is about 1 1/4 inch, and 7/8 inch thick. I rounded over the edges of the vinyl piece. Sanded the vinyl smooth.

I cut 2 groves in the piece so the 2 guiderail connectors were recessed about 1/4 inch. I pre drilled some holes in the vinyl using guiderail connectors screw holes as a reference, and screwed them to the vinyl piece. I then cut 2 domino slots 12 mm deep in the piece to keep the hose and cord from sliding off the end of the vinyl piece and so the hose and cord would not snag on the connector ends that stick out. Put 8 x 50 dominos into the slot did not glue them.

Played with the setup and it seems to do what it is intended to do.

This could be made from wood, I just had some scrap vinyl laying in front of me. My concern now is not loosing the 2 grub screws I removed from the connectors. I am also thinking about making a rounded over piece to lay in the slots around the MFT so the hose slides over the edge.

Anyway maybe this will help someone and maybe you can adapt it to work for you.

Have a safe 4th everyone.

Yes, I do have the Festool one. I was never happy with it. Seemed like the hose and cord still managed to slide off and catch on the MFT or the piece I was cutting. I may try putting a taller side stop on the Festool part and see how that goes.

I am going to be cutting vinyl siding and will be using the TS 55 with a vacuum is why I was thinking about rail snags.

On a side note. I did just buy an HKC 55. Being battery powered and using a bag alleviates the cord & hose issue. I am really enjoying using the HKC 55 on construction lumber instead of the Kapex. The HKC 55 takes up a lot less room in the van and is quicker to set up.

I am subscribed to Stephan  Pohnleins YouTube channel. He is amazing and very clever. I probably watched that YouTube clip and then when I was thinking about the hose and cord issue it materialized in bits and pieces which resulted in my creation.

This topic shows what I did to make the Festool one work better in many situations.

When I try to view your photos in the other thread and click on the thumbnails I don't get the enlarged version of the image. I have encountered this on other old threads, the thumbnails are visible but can't see the full size image. Almost like the server doesn't have the full image anymore, just the thumbnail.

Does this happen to anyone else or is it just me?

It's not just you. There was a catastrophic server failure some time ago which meant many images were lost, never to return.

Some people (myself included) have added copies back in to threads but this is only a small percentage.

What Garry said. I will try to remember to add new pics.

My experience with the Festool 489022 is similarly poor. The side rails are simply not tall enough to keep the cord and vac hose aligned.  Will probably make one like those above.

My issue with those designs are that they require $40 in rail connectors and are not that easy or quick to install / remove.

I do like the taller wings.

I'll ask Festool for the 112th time : why haven't you updated this accessory to address its shortcomings on the new rail ?  ::)

Because they are Festool* and you don't know how bad it is till you buy one. They already have your money and you can't return accessories.

Yes, a rail deflector helps a ton.  It also helps if the dust hose points up instead of down.  The swivel on the tracksaw dust port makes that very hard.  I got so feed up with the snagging that I developed a No Hose Snag Dust Port Replacement for Festool Track Saws. The guys I worked wanted ones for their saws.  So I started printing and selling them on Etsy.  It installs in under 2 minutes.  It also allows for the Festool 27mm Cleantec dust hose to twist-lock into place.

I thought all TS 55 REQ and later come with ratcheting dust port that locks in position. At least my does.
Also, how about continuity between antistatic hose and the saw?

Mine sucks.  The weight of the hose pulls it straight down.  So I superglued in the position I like....

Andrew- if you make one that takes the 32mm hose, post back here and I'll buy one.

I am assuming that you are talking about a general 32mm / 1.25" that comes with most vacuum systems?

I am currently working on a No Hose Snag that will fit a standard 32mm / 1.25" hose from a Craftsman, Dewalt, or other standard name brand vacuum system.  Same thing for a 35mm hose, Cen-Tec hose, Bosch, and any other 'standard' I can find. I'll link here once it is ready.

I really appreciate the feedback!

Thanks,
-Andrew
