Guido has a write up in a freebie festool Germany's produce (issue no 8)

http://www.festool.de/Aktionen/Festool-fuer-Heimwerker/Holzidee-Heimwerken/Documents/holzidee/Holzidee_08.pdf

http://www.festool.de/Aktionen/Festool-fuer-Heimwerker/Holzidee-Heimwerken/Seiten/Holzidee-Magazin-Ausgaben.aspx is a link to the index of available issues

If like me your german is limited (what i learnt in year 7 & on Hogans Heros - which is to not much at all) i found that a website that makes things more legible for me, the translation may need a bit of finessing and it might take a couple of goes to translate but it will do the whole document.

http://www.onlinedoctranslator.com/translator.html

there are lots of good bits and pieces and Guido has a presence in most if not all issues

the danger in looking at these magazines is that they are full of great ideas and things to add to the "I'll make this one day" list

For 400 bucks? I'll make my own. I've done jigs similar to this when cutting eclipses but guido's set up is really good (of course). I wish I had a translation of the video, I literally shouted "Guido, and noooooooo!" when I saw him using the string method for layout.

The "standard" jig is $219.  That higher price is for the "large" kit.

Still about 210 more than I'd be willing to spend. I do cut eclipses of various sizes, sometimes huge, other times wee. Not nearly enough to justify a store bought jig. How much do you think Guido spent on his? 99% of it is probably made out of shop scrap. It's set up and adjustments to look about as fast and accurate as the best of them. Seriously, it's practically the same jig to a t.

Brice    this is a great way of getting it done. Need to learn the math before I try something like this thoough

Brice,

Thanks for that.  I hadn't seen that one before.

Grrrrrrr

At night when Im bored I check Utube and other sites for videos demo-ing jigs , homemade benches  etc to use with my festools.

Then I find yet another source that I over looked.

Its a good thing to find new sources but it makes me think how many sources I dont know about or havent thought of checking….

Thanks for the info guys. Ill add this to my bookmark folder I have for festool info.

Using those shower door wheels for guides opens up a whole bunch of jig ideas for me.

Before you make/buy an elliptical jig, make sure you really want the shape of an ellipse. Just because it is a mathematically derived shape doesn't mean it will look good.

I like Mike Sloggatt's jig.  Check out the article on TiC.

i like that jig
in most cases people doing elipses will probably use the same measurements fairly often. in this set up you can make an arm for each elipse size .. that way you can come back a year later and the workpiece will be the same

shame it only creates half an elips

That Tic article I think was off of their series on eliptical arches, and its a good little read. they also cover a few different types of elipse like shapes, three centered arches and the like. a perfect elipse is not always the right look.
