Does anyone have any experience of the Hammer N4400 sanding attachment? This enables you to use a sanding belt in place of the blade. I was debating whether to get this or a bobbin sander.

Never saw the Hammer sanding attachment so I went online. Not there ether but I didn't search long. I have a 14" Rockwell Delta from 20 years ago ( made in Canada ) with riser block. I bought the sanding attachment with it. It has a flat platen and a bowed platen. It works great but you better be doing 50 to 100 pieces at a time or the set up will kill you. Hobby, it doesn't matter. Job, buy a dedicated machine. MARK

I decided to buy the sanding attachment. I am only a hobbiest and I have been happy with my other Hammer accessory purchases. If its too much of a pain to set up I'll sell it. I like the idea of an oscillating spindle sander like the one in your link, Mark. I'll probably get one of those as well.

Any update on this? I was thinking about possibly getting the sanding attachment for mine. What did you think of it?

There was another thread where I provided an update:

I haven't used the attachment since in a serious way - I just tried setting it up, briefly trying it, and putting the blade back as an experiment. It was a bit easier this time as I had left the various components of the sanding attachment connected together to save time. I think my original view (as expressed in the above link) is largely the same.

I would buy a Jet JBOS-5 instead (if I could find the space for it). If space was limited I would probably keep the sanding attachment and give it a bit longer to prove itself.

I think that the sort of woodworking I do (and I don't do that much due to lack of time) does not require this type of sanding very often hence my not trying it out much.
