Hand Sanding Blocks w/ Dust Extraction are Available in North America

Am I right that there is a 22mm hose (456745) available that would work well with these?

You're right about the hose, Seth.

Part #456745 is a 22mm x 3.5m hose. To my knowledge, we can't get it. I'll try to verify that.

The sanding blocks, at least as sold here, come with two adapters. One has a valve that can adjust the suction by opening a port to spill some vacuum. The other adapter is to bring it up to the size necessary for a 27mm hose connection.

Those look like they'd be very awkward to use .

What's the advantage over an RO-90?

Zero possibility of sanding swirl marks. A cabinet maker friend had a call back on a maple job, the owner didn't like the little swirl marks when she got up close. After that he made hand sanding an extra if folks were that particular.

What papers do these use?

496962, 80mm x 130mm, uses the same abrasives as the LS 130 or the RTS 400, the 80mm x 133mm sizes.

496963, 115mm x 226mm, uses the same abrasives as the RS 2, the 115mm x 300mm sizes.

There's some abrasives that measure 80mm x 400mm and I'm guessing that is what the other two would use. 496964 is 80mm x 400mm and 496965 is 80mm x 200mm. They both have the same hole pattern, which is different than any I've seen so far.

I'm glad you asked, Paul G, I was stupidly assuming that those two used the 80mm x 133mm abrasives but the hole pattern is different. I'll get some of the 80mm x 400mm sizes to verify and report back...

I have used the Mirka models for drywall and was satisfied. I have one of the Festool ones and like that one also.

Excellent! What have you used for sandpaper?

I've got 2 small closets (42" square) to finish, one of these would be a blessing.

Hmmmm, wonder how those would work for drywall finishing?

They work very good with drywall. Drywall is easy to sand, but it makes a big mess. These sanding blocks with dust extraction help a lot with keeping the dust under control.

Mine are at the shop so I will have to check.  I ended up buying the Mirka's when they were on closeout at Woodcraft because I couldn't get the Festool ones here.  For those I used abranet paper.  Turned the entire sanding surface in dust collection.  I wish that I had found the smaller diameter hose, but using the 27 mm wasn't too awkward.

Hmmm.... usually by the time you can afford a custom piece of furniture, you're no longer able to see tiny swirl marks... ;)

Have you put these through there paces?  Or do you know of any videos that show in use?

Any idea how i can get these in Canada?
I've got a huge day of sanding drywall coming up, likely monday, and these would be a godsend. My planex is to big for a lot of the stuff I have to sand on this job and my dts might be to hard to get the control I need. Usually when I hand sand where dust is an issue I'm trying to hold a sanding sponge in one hand and a syslight and vac hose in the other, its awkward to say the least and a lot of dust still gets away.

I haven't tried them yet, Bryan. I would feel comfortable relying on the testimony of Peter and Alex.

I have a customer that bought some recently for an upcoming drywall project. I should have a report back soon.

I'd try the dealer(s) that you normally rely on.

Hard to get control with a DTS? I'm amazed. You can always use a higher grit paper and/or turn the speed down.
