Hardwood suppliers (UK)

My local supplier has suffered during the coronavirus fallout, and based on the tone of conversations I suspect they will slowly wind the business down and cash out rather than rebuild.

Does anyone have any recommendations for online suppliers that deliver UK wide? A good balance of cost & quality would be ideal.

Many thanks in advance.

Don't know if you frequent ukworkshop.co.uk (if you don't you should!) but if you look on that website under General Woodworking you will find a topic called Reference and Information Stickys. In there you will find a big list of timber suppliers in the UK plus all their details about delivery etc.

You could also just ask the question on that site, maybe with a few more details and someone will steer you in the right direction.

I've used timbersource.co.uk quite a bit. They have a good range I feel and can discount quite well on big orders. Beware their delivery quote system. It penalises short delivery times very very heavily.

I've bought American & European oak, ash, beech and sapele from them. I don't ask for it to be cut to length and I usually get a lot of extra timber that if they chopped off they couldn't sell.

Just once I received a poor shipment of european oak, but a quick phone call and it was replaced within two days.

Same here, have used Timbersource and was happy with the timber and service. As Keith says, keep an eye on charges.

There’s a few others I’ve used for specials, if I can dig out the invoices, I’ll post them up.
