Hi, for a long time, I've seriously considered building a cabinet with a TV lift. Sourcing out TV lifts, I'm currently looking at Nexus21 and their Model L-39S swivel lift. http://www.tvlift.com/full-size-swivel-tv-lift.html

I was wondering if anyone has built such a beast and has tips, pitfalls or dangers to constructing one? Provided this project gets off the ground, I'm expecting it to inject a major amount of "wow" factor from visitors to my place.

I don't like lifts with top frame / chassis formats ... Though they're probably more stable. I saw one in the end of a bed a few years back that hinged open and lifted the tv out of the base. Looked way cool.

(I think the majority of these lift systems use standard VESA back mounts)

I'm hanging out for zero edge configurable OLED tiles  [smile]

Same here!  Well if they bloody hurry up! seen it years ago and it's still not readily available! But when Oled finally does I'll build a curved stud wall where you can stick my Oled wall paper onto giving nice surround view be mint!

Also stick it on my van!

I'll get rid of all my lights and just stick Oled on every ceiling cut it round so the entire ceiling is covered!  Its more energy efficient than normal lighting but also I can have clouds and birds on the ceiling flying past!  Can't wait!   The possibilities are endless!

Any way ive been thinking about getting a TV lift for my house but it comes out the floor because some of the rooms in my house on the ground floor still have suspended flooring so I could make an enclosed box and drop it into the floor be so cool!

I think I will do it!  Yeah I will sod what my g/f says about waisting money!  It's cool!

I'll take some pictures won't be doing it anytime soon though be a good few months but i will do it!

very interested in this. newer tv designs look a little odd in traditional tv cabinets I feel. need to see some cool new thinking in this vein

Did this last summer or two summers ago.  Built in a kitchen island, the tv rotates so you can watch it from anywhere in the room.  One word of advice, do not build the cabinet off specs provided online or otherwise.  Get it in your hands, then design the cabinet around it.

Edit: the swivel was motorized by remote control

Foregone conclusion. I'd already decided to buy first and then build/design, but thanks for the tip anyway. I'm interested in the fact that the swivel is also motorized in your install. Can you give me the lift manufacturer's name or perhaps a link to their web site? Thanks.

Upscale, the lift was provided by the A/v guys that were working on the job with me, so I can't remember off the top of my head.  Will make some calls today to see if I can track that info down for you.

I'd appreciate that. One other question. That lift is in the kitchen on what appears to be a working surface. Did you in any way address the issue of dirt, crumbs or perhaps liquid getting into the adjacent edge slots when the lift was down?

Not much thought went into whether or not any liquid or dirt would find its way into the opening, I can assure you.  Especially since the tv is literally behind the dishwasher opening... [eek]

Found out the name of the lift.  http://www.auton.com/

Hope it helps.

Here's one I built a few years ago:

Nice looking unit. I see that the lid opens up instead of sitting directly on top of the TV. How well has it worked in the last five years? If you were going to build the cabinet with a lift again, would you build anything differently?

I also notice that you started posting on the FOG just about the same time you build your TV lift cabinet. Did a Festool purchase prompt you to build the TV lift cabinet?  [smile]
