Has anyone tried cutting crown like this with Kapex wings attached?

I just got the Kapex with UG stand.  I debated buying the crown extensions but I didn't like the fact that you couldn't attach the UG wings with them.  After assembling and disassembling the wings a couple of times it occurred to me that if you reversed the wings you could use the backstop as a front stop for nesting crown.

Has anyone tried this method?  What benefits might I be missing from the crown extensions?

Let us know how it works for you.

I can't remember anyone posting here how it worked for them, but someone out there has used it like this before.  During the AWFS show in Las Vegas a Festool user showed the Festool guys this technique and Shane passed it along here.

I have both the UG and the crown stops and keep hoping Festool will come up with a solution for them to work together or perhaps a completely new crown stop attachment for use in conjunction with the UG system.

I'm going to give reversing the UG extensions a try. It looks like the front stop will be pretty far from the blade that may affect consistently locating the top edge the same distance from the fence.  Cutting short pieces may be an issue too...

I think you have found the solution.  Brilliant I say.  To me the crown stops add an extra layer of inaccuracy as both the crown stop and extension wing have some play when tightening so each each has to be leveled to the saw base.  I believe that the reason that Festool did not bother to make the wings compatible with the crown stops is that the extension wings are too narrow to support crown cut in position anyways.

Your solution is a perfect one as it puts the stop where the crown is touching the extensions.

With a little time to play around with it, I find that the measuring tape sits just a hair lower than the rest of the extension. This is slightly problimatic as that is where the crown will touch.
I'm working on a sacrificial fence to connect the extensions. Any ideas I'd like to hear them.
