Has anyone used the Lamello Invis MX2 on handrails?

I am thinking of purchasing the Lamello Invis MX2 for joining railings to newel posts, mitred railings to railings etc. The dealer claims it would be awesome for this purpose but I do see a couple of reviews online where users had difficulty making them work on dense woods like maple.

The set-up guide inside the box says that best placement of the Invis joiner is 9mm-15mm from the centre of the joiner to the outside edge of the wood. That's pretty tight to the edge.

Wisdom from the festoolownersgroup is appreciated - and never failed me yet.

I have never used one personally, but I know a guy who has one and loves it. It is one of those "You may not need it often, but it's fantastic when you do" kinds of things.
From what I remember him saying, alignment is important. The little screw works best when it is just tightening the joint. The threads must not bind on each other or try to pull the joint together. It should fit nicely, so you can hold it closed when tightening. Something about the speed of the drill too? I don't remember the specifics though?
