The title says it all.  I just got a text from him. He is going with work as a civilian. He asked if I want anything.  What could he possibly bring home that I would be able to use.  I'm excited.

Make a list of NAINA items and get those.  ;D

Or if you want to be boring / sensible prioritise  items on the list and take it from there.  [scared]

I don't know, I'd say if you have a CMS to get him to bring back the TS 55 or 75 modules and the Jig Saw module..

Rachet kit, some of the attic centrotec kit's Stone, Bradpoint, bit selection 1 and 2..

Good options,  I would probably not ask him to bring home a large systainer, I like the ratchet idea though.  I didn't know what was available in Germany that I could use.

You might determine where he's going to find the local dealer and make an advance call to ensure stock of items wanted or even place an advance order for pickup.  It's handy to have German language skills to speak with the dealer rep.  Not uncommon for a dealer to require a couple days to get items not commonly stocked.

Nobody has said Vac Sys. Will it run on 120 volts with a proper plug?

It won't run on 120V with just a plug, but works just fine with a step-up transformer. It is rated for both 50Hz and 60HZ, so cycles aren't a limiting factor.

Step up transformers are relatively inexpensive, and many can be found on Amazon. Just be aware that warranty service will be through Germany, not the USA.

Mine works GREAT!  Well worth the expense. (Note: the unit and bases are heavy...not likely easy to take on a plane)

Cheers,

Frank

Frank,
As someone who has done this already, I expected a better reply from you.  I am thinking more like what was mentioned above, I like the ratchet idea, and specialty items that we in the states cant get.

I don't know if the Centrotec Ratchet sets are still available, but they are a no-brainer if you can get them. Perfect set, and damn glad I picked one up while in Germany.

Festool 497881

Current Price is around $160 U.S. if you get back 19% VAT at a departure point.
Comes in a Mini-Systainer and easily packed in baggage.

Also consider the Festool lighted Stabila levels if available. There are two models...one long, and one shorty.
And on top of that, if you use Festool Routers, you might consider their 10-piece router bit set for a significant savings over purchasing individually.  All these are NOT cheap, but you'll have exclusive ownership in NA! [big grin]

See the picture below for the levels, ratchet set, and the router bits. The Centrotec Installer's Kit is an older version that I don't believe is available anymore, and the U.S. dealers have the current set available.

If you are REALLY ambitious.. you might consider the following items: BHC Hammer Drill, PDC Quad, and the TSC55 Cordless Plunge saw! [scared]  I own these and they are simply AWESOME!

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out!

Yea frank.  I remember you showing us your table saw all decked out in woodpecker and Incra. Gave me a serious Bo***.  Lol. Let's get them used a bit.  As to the tools, I think I have decided on the levels and small kits available in mini's.

if you buy this stuff over seas...do you still get 3 year warranty if you bring it to the US?
