If you are new to the MFT or even just want to watch someone else setting one up, here is a video for you:

Peter

I watched this today.  I don't have, or plan to have, an MFT/3 but it was one of the better 'Live' videos in this series.  Looked like it would be very helpful to someone wanting to set one up.

I enjoyed it.

Sedge really went indepth in this one.

I learned a few things gonna watch it again before I set up my MFT for cross cutting again

I liked it as well. There are others on YouTube. Some of which are pretty long and I didn’t have the attention span for that. LOL.

I recently added the MFT/3 to my setup mostly because I only have a garage and everything has to stow away for the cars. I’m working on developing my “muscle memory” so that I can set it up quickly and know that it is square and true.

I am also looking at challenging myself to see it this setup with my TS55 can legitimately take the place of my 12” sliding compound miter saw. Even though the miter saw is on a gravity cart, it still takes up an large footprint when in the stored position. Most of my miter cuts have been straight or angled, but not compound so I haven’t come across a situation where the MFT/3 has come up short.

I would be interested in hearing others thoughts on this.

I used my MFT for cross cutting before I got my Kapex. Worked great but does take time. Using a SCMS is faster for things under 12" as Sedge said in the video. How ever one thing I found is square isnt always square. Make sure your SCMS is square to your MFTs square if the makes sense.

Sometimes it isn't.

With that being said a MFT would work good.

I would recommend picking up a few extra flag stops for it. Makes your cross cutting life easier and more accurate

Snip.

Like you, I have little interest in long-winded clips. I find 90% of YouTube videos can be reduced to 10% of their original lengths, still without losing anything valuable or material. So my solution is to download what seems to be interesting content, and watch it with the mouse in ready mode...to click and skip. That way, i can easily finish a total of all three videos of, say, 45 mins long each, in under 15 minutes.

I got away from using the MFT/ GR for cross cutting. Tried other methods like the GRS w the PGs etc. But after seeing Sedges video. I used it t set up my MFT the festool way. I got some dead nuts cuts. Felt like I just left my first festool end users class.

Felt pretty darned good. Not that im going to stop using my GRS for ripping but as I said , it felt good.
