My name is Sal and I'm a retired Teamster and basketball coach with a bunch of home repairs from not enough time time to do them when I was working and coaching. I picked up my first Festool last month (a CXS drill) and just added a jigsaw. I'm not a pro, I just like doing things myself. It's good to be here.

Hi Coach!

Welcome to the world of Festool addiction!!! [big grin]

Lets guess, a TS55 next, then a CT26, then a Rotex 90, then, ...then..., then.... [scared] [scared]

Thanks for the welcome guys, but go easy. I'm already addicted to custom flashlights (torches) and knives.  [embarassed]

Hi Sal.

Welcome to the FOG!  There are some good folks here from all around the world who will be able to help you get the hang of  Festool product line.

I got the CXS last summer and have found it to be incredibly handy.

My better half is a Jersey girl----raised in Passaic County.

Welcome!
Question: what the heck is a "custom" flashlight?
Do you get flashlights made for you?
I get the knife thing...it's almost as bad as a (my) pen addiction, probably indicates some sort of Freudian personality disorder [unsure].

Hi Coach,

Welcome to the FOG!  [smile]

I am interested to know more about the flashlights too!

Not all addictions are bad (I keep telling myself that)

Welcome...  Where in Jersey are you from?  You just added another expensive hobby  [smile]

Dave

Thanks guys.

Dave, I'm up in Piscataway.

Tim, yeah, I forgot about the pens.

I'm not sure I should tell you guys about the lights if you don't know about them already.

Aw, what the heck. Many years ago I was on a knife forum and this guy was showing off his new knife. There was a custom light in the picture and I asked him about it. He directed me to Candlepower forums and it was all over. You can have a custom light built or you can buy the parts and put one together yourself. Most of mine a limited runs. They are titanium bodies with the latest LEDs and custom built light engines.

Don't drool on the keyboard.  ;D

Damn Coach, those are nice.
What's the one (black) in the middle used for or is the power pack just configured for ease of use?
Tim

You have good taste Tim. That one is call the Spy005. It's built by a guy named Data from PA. It's just a different design that uses two CR123 batteries, side by side. The small cone is the switch and the large one is the LED. The switch controls 3 or 4 different levels. Mine is one of the prototypes.

It has a newer brother (Spy007) with a titanium body. It's the one at 3 o'clock.

Be careful, a light knowledge can be expensive. I'm hooked.  [big grin]

I see Systainers with foam inserts in your future  [wink]

Being a bit of a flashlight guy, I can truly appreciate your work. Not to mention my dad is a retired steam-fitter who has tinkered all his life in his spare time.

What kind of LEDs are in there and what kind of reflector did you choose?

I'd love to see some pictures showing the various kinds of"throw" and "spill" your different lights are putting out.

Welcome,

David

Seth, I picked up a mini-Systainer from Amazon, but that baby is waaaaaaay too small.

David, that jigsaw came from your store (super customer service). My LEDs run the gamut from early LuxIII through the latest XMLs (my favorite now). I prefer lights with throw, but a lot of them are flood. Same goes for the reflectors. I prefer the orange-peel, but I do have some smooth ones too. It's like an avalanche in the Alps, once you start, there's no stopping it. Unfortunately, I take terrible beam shots.

I know that Avalanche effect far too well.  It's commonplace in various hobbies of mine.  Somehow I was able to dodge the bullet when David brought in Surefire & Fenix lights about 2 years ago.  Dave sure did not dodge the Avalanche.  I'm the guy prodding down into the snow with an 11' foot pole, screaming his name with a German Shepard at my side!  He's way under.

Aaaaah, yes , but five of them fit nicely on edge in a Sys - III. So you can sort your collection by type  [thumbs up]
