Help Domino xl 700 slowing down.

Hello I have problem with my XL slowing down several times during mortising. I have tried to put a YouTube link here  that I created but it’s not posting. U can go to YouTube and search Domino XL 700 problem. It’s the one I created today. I have sent this to Festool for warranty but sent back saying no issue. When I first started using this it’s not like this. Help pls.

To me that looks like one of two possible causes, you have a crappy AC mains supply that's fluctuating, or more likely the controller board isn't maintaining speed under load due to a component issue. Have you tried another location to rule out the mains?

Also, are you powering it from a dust extractor? Try direct to mains if so to rule that out.

Thank you for posting my YouTube video here I appreciate it. I have tried plugging it on a different source but not luck. My vacuum is on another plug of its own. I called Festool and answering service left message still waiting. I just don’t understand why the Festool service department didn’t see this. I have included this picture when they returned my tool.

This might seem simple, but how sharp is the bit? If it has been used a lot, it's might just be as simple as it just isn't cutting as designed and it bogging down.  Or, is it possible there is a clog in your dust extractor hose so the extractor isn't pulling the dust out quick enough; so it catches up then bogs down . . .  Just suggestions. I've never experience that problem with either my 500 or my XL; actually no problems that aren't of my own making. The other suggestion about power source also seems like a good possibilty.

Cutter's sharpness and dust extraction may affect the mortise quality but they shouldn't cause the machine to slow down like that. Some have even used their machine with no dust extraction at all for a few quick cuts.

Either the power supply or the machine itself is a more likely culprit.

Is the cutter broken? Also, to rule out wood itself being an issue, I'd make a few test cuts on a scrap softwood like pine or a 2x4.

Thanks for all your response. Anyways the cutter is pretty new D14 it came with my Xl bought it 3months ago. I only used this machine to build a twin loft and needing to build another one but this happen. I have a DF 500 that’s using the same vacuum and plugs with no issue. I will be returning the XL to Festool  for service again.

I think you mentioned trying it in a different outlet, but have you tried in a different physical location like at work or somewhere else?

I can't imagine Festool wouldn't have tried plunging it into wood to test, so it begs the question why did it work for them but not at your place?

I have not tried to bring it to anybody’s house yet. But all of my tools are fine at my whole hose even the DF500 no issue. I have a APC UPS 1500 that I can plug it too, u think that will work? The APC is a sine wave cleaner power rated for 1000 watts.

Consumption is under 1Kw, so I couldn't see an issue with powering it from a UPS, my entire CNC and controller setup is running off a UPS at home without any issue for many years now.

I've noticed that it doesn't make the sound when it's not plunging.  Have you tried plunging more slowly?  14mm is an awfully large hunk to be hogging out.  I can't say that I normally plunge as quickly as what I saw in the video, but I've almost exclusively used my 500.

Ok I tried  plugging it in the UPS same problem so I sent the machine back. Oh buy the way it’s not how I plundge that thing that makes it stop there a problem with it. The wood I’m using is pine not even that hard. U think a $1500 equipment should be able to handle any abuse better than my dewalts that’s 4 times cheaper.

It's a precision piece of machinery.  And while it is definitely built to a much higher standard than mass market "buy one get one free" tools, if it is actually abused, it will break.

I would definitely make sure that Festool has your phone number and knows to call you before they send it back if they don't think they can find an issue.

Have you tried another power cord? I have experienced similar slow down with rotex 150 if I use ets es 150 cord.

If the power cord indeed is the culprit, that may explain why the Festool technicians found no fault with the machine because they could've used their own cord when testing the machine. [eek]

In the picture posted  Festool did an electrical check hopefully the cord. I hope Festool  calls me about it. Coz I email every person I can email to help me fix this. The customer that I’m building the loft is already calling when they can move in there new house. Anyways thank you all for your help, hopefully it’s just a controller board so I can get my tool back and start working again.
