I need some help planning my next build. I normally would not spend the time to "clone" something IKEA has already poorly made, but its not my choice this time [wink]
I want to make a sturdier and nicer version of the HEMNES bookshelf (sketchup drawingsketchup drawing). The part I am struggling with on the cut list is how to do the inset sides. I came across some plans (here) but they seem to rely on Big Box lumber and only having access to a Kreg Jig (which I also do, but want to build this thing the "right" way). Would you suggest doing the 1x12 technique that they illustrate or is there a better way.
Would you do the sides like building raised panel doors?
I've also been hoping to learn a bit more cabinet making techniques with this and justify the investment in a router table.
Any guidance is appreciated. This is my first "clone" project so it's quite the learning curve compared to designing something with your existing skillset/experiences in mind.
