I want to join an apron to a table leg.  The leg is 3 1/2 inches square.  My apron is 1 1/2  inches.  I want the apron to be centered in the leg; however, I am unsure how to proceed.  I know have put the stablizer plate onto the domino, but can't figure how to line it up for the cut.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Chiefk

The Domino's fence can be set to as much as 40mm from the center of the bit, that should do it.

3 1/2 inches is about 89 mm.  If the fence is a little short, then use a smaller offset and use a rail - wood will suffice - and clamp it to the leg - offset by what ever you set your fence at...  should work fine.

For this, I would reference off the base rather than the fence.  I would also do a 'double stack' of Dominos.  You'll need some 1 inch thick stock to raise the base when mortising the leg - the best way to make sure you're dead on with the 1 inch thick stock is to cut 2 pieces of it and stack it with the apron and ensure the 3 pieces together are the same thickness as your leg.

Cut mortises in the apron with the apron and Domino on a flat benchtop surface.  Cut mortises referencing off the front of the apron and off the rear to get the 'double stack.'  Be sure to get the alignment pin on the top of the apron for both of these cuts.

Now mortise the leg by putting the leg directly on the flat benchtop surface and laying the Domino on 1 (ONE) of the 1 inch thick spacers.  Be sure you're marked out the side of the leg you want mortised....I've made the mistake of mortising the wrong side of a leg before  :P.

I don't know the width of the apron but I'd probably do a wider mortise and make my own tenon stock or if wide enough, cut 4 mortises.  Slight chamfering of the wooden dominos makes for easier assembly.

Thanks everyone for your advice.  I am off to the shop to give this a shot.  Chiefk
