Help Using TSO Square on Narrower Boards

I have a large 4'x8' work table utilizing 3-piece MFT slabs that I can assemble in 5-minutes or less. My original plan was to use the slabs with bench dogs and rails for my work...then I bought a TSO Square (GRS16-PE). Since then I have been exclusively using the GRS with a rail for my crosscutting.

Only slight issue I have is when crosscutting narrower boards with a shorter 39" rail the rail wants to pivot upwards due to the weight of the track saw.

Anyone found a work around for this?

Thanks
Mike

how wide are your work pieces that you are trying to crosscut?

Do you have enough room on the track to slide the GRS further up the rail?  You just need 10" or so to add some filler material material matching the material you are cutting.  Make sure the blade won't hit the filler when you plunge down to begin your cut (or the saw will kick back).

[member=1674]Peter Halle[/member] I’d say boards 20” or smaller in width. Guess anything I use my 39” rail with. Seems the 55” rail is heavy enough to somewhat balance the saws weight.

I spent many years with Eurekazone tools - just over a year ago I switched over to Makita/Festool. The EZ square was about 2-1/2” wide and about 3/4” thick so I think that was acting as a kick-stop of sorts.

Thanks for the replies - I have a few things to try.

Mike,
a "filler" would not need to be any larger than a postage stamp. Add a bit of double-stick tape for easy-on / easy-off and you should be good to go.

You may find that the filler can simply sit on your worksurface.

All- some may think why not just use a SCMS? I'm in a garage shop with limited space so if I have a couple cuts to make it is way easier to pull out my TSO Square and guide rail than to set up my miter saw.
