this unit was from a referral in the same neighborhood that I have 14 built ins already out of approx 250 homes.... not a bad ratio
again this was all built on site using the festool system.  it took me 6 days and 1 day for my painter who came back yesterday, sunday and did the finish painting.  sherwin williams super paint.  roller and brush.

I used birch cabinet grade plywood, the usa made and popular for the trim.  and I made the doors also.

the 2 chairs are for here kids to sit at and do homework every night and the rest of the built in is for display etc.  once I was done she comes back from store with the 2 scones lights for me to put on it.... if I had known beforehand could have did different.  oh well it still looks great ..

have 6 more built ins lined up to do... and I sold 2 jobs for built ins just today !

Nice job as always.  I like the clean lines on this one more so than some of the past work you've submitted.

Nice job. I see what you mean about the sconces, but it's what the client wanted so they must be happy :)

Looks great. Amazing how much time they do take to build. I have one in the planing stages for a guy up the street and I am sure I won't make anything on it. I will get a LR32 system and OF1400 out of the deal.  [big grin]

What did you use for the top surface desk area?

Looks reaaalll nice, as usual.  Did you put a dust cap on the top, seeing how you can look right down onto it from the stairs?

Lookin' good! I am curious about your 'desktop' surface too. It's a little hard to see, but is there some kind of applied molding on the face frames?

Why didn't you either return the base shoe and base trim or wrap them into the opening?

Maybe you could build them a ladder to get to the top parts.

I think you might own that neighborhood by now.

Looks like the stay in the hospital was good for business.
Way too nice for kids to do homework at...not sure how much homework will get done anyway, with them sitting that close together...if her kids are anything like my my brother and I nothing would be getting done except joking around, doodling and screwing around with whatever precious collectables were on the shelves.

the top is just  a sheet of burch ply 3/4  domonoed together to make it 12 feet long  then screwed it from underside and then attached a 1x3 to the edge and then did a round over  then primed and painted....

could have used a laminate but customer was on a budget and this will work fine, kids can use a pad

warner, I agree probably should have but didnt as simple as that.

tim,  I agree about the kids and the funny thing is they have 3 children !  and this is for only 2 of them the younger one is in kindergarten and she says he stays by her alll the time. so the other 2 can fight it out and bug each other sitting that close and yes they will

as they fought while I was there for a week alot !  its amazing when you are at a house for a week or so and you get to see the real housewife !

Kreg,

You look naked there without your bandana!  [big grin]

Where did you choose to hide the seam in the joined top?  Under one of the verticals near your hand, in the picture?

Pretty close. I went 8' from. Stairs to me and then added the other 4' there. I used dominos and glue to join.

Oh, I get it naked, no bandana...say no more...

Kreg

What do you use to make your doors? I'm interested in seeing a short video if you ever get a chance

Hi, Kreg,

I haven't seen you around, lately.  I'm going to have to sign on as your assistant the next time you do a job in the Atlanta area, so I can get the real lowdown on all your secrets.

hey sandy, I called you and invited you and your son to my builtin class at highland woodwork, and the class was very successful and I will be doing another one next year,

In regards to the doors,, I make all my own doors via either the sommerfeld bit set or cmt or even the rockler styles and rails door set.  I have several router tables, but I prefer the sommerfeld on.

www.sommerfeldtools.com

check out his website as he sells a dvd on how to make raised panel doors etc.  plus sells the bits and table and router.  that is who I learned from

I will made a door video soon along with some others that I have in the works over the next 60-90 days that will be awesome !!! and professionally done  just wait.
