Here's where all the Pro 5 sanders went...

I would love to hear an official response from Festool about how and why one person or dealer is able to amass such an inventory to sell at 2.5x the orig. rate.

Huh?  I've spoken to three or four Festool dealers in Ohio.  To my recollection, none of them got more than 50 units.

What am I missing? An ad for a single Pro 5 for $250?

Looks like the advertisement got taken down.  Basically it was 80 of the Pro 5 Ltd sanders in front of a store with prices of $250 CAD each or five for $1050 CAD.

Times 80 (all in one pic).

Wow...thanks for the reply, the pic didn't come up on my iPhone...

As they say, there's always 2 ways to skin a cat, however, as the demand for Festool tools becomes greater, the ways to skin a cat will multiply.

Just putting some further thought into this issue, the seller of these boot-legged sanders has been identified. The over-the-top price has been established and some members on this forum probably have the screen captures to corroborate the evidence.

What prevents [member=57769]TylerC[/member] from turning this over to upper management for proper review?
Something similar happened with Woodcraft and they consequently lost the distributorship.

Wow! What a beautifully executed promo sale this was. Bravo Festool. Now i know why they dont do sales often... they're bad at it. My Pro5 is still a month out. :-/

I was tempted, but I thought I have the best random orbit made, and the best 1/2 sheet made, and a used DX93 for. Corners... Do I really need a cut rate sander just for a discount coupon?

Did you mean Rockler?  Woodcraft continues to be a dealer for Festool....

Holmz I didn't know you got yourself an ETS EC or a DS2. LOL. As far as the the Pro5 it's a good 5" and it has a place in any lineup. Do you actually post anything positive about Festool products?

I don't read many of your posts but you always seem to talk about Lamello, Mafel and Mirka. Don't they have their own sites where you guys can drink Red and Yellow Koolaid.

As far as the guy selling in Toronto I think its wrong but shows Festool another way the screwed up this promotion badly. It goes hand in hand with allowing Amazon.ca the ability to give an to 30% off sale on Festool.

This was taken down by the time I got to it. Did anyone happen to get a screenshot? Who was the seller?

I'm not sure why the ad was taken down, but the fact that it was is meaningful.

My understanding is that dealers ended up being sent the number of PRO 5s that they sold -- not that they ordered. So it's not unheard of that one dealer would have 80 of them, but it's strange that they would have 80 unsold ones.

I'm not sure why the ad was taken down, but the fact that it was is meaningful.

There's two different issues at play here.

1) If this was a dealer, they would need to be looked at for price gouging. I know you get very upset about the floor cost, but am unclear about a ceiling price.
2) If it was not a dealer, you need to look into how someone was able to purchase 80 of these things for profit while people are still on the hook waiting for another month or more.

I'm not upset, mainly because I've had my Pro5 for a few months now. But I understand that others would be. I don't knock someone for working the system to make a living either, but when you are a company with the reputation you have for controlling price and distribution channels, this isn't a good look for you in particular. I didn't pay close attention to the name on the sign to give it to you. Others might have.

And while we're having a chat, please try to work things out with Rockler again at some point. They just opened up a store ten minutes from me and it would be super convenient for supply restock.

We don't comment publicly about specific dealers or our dealer relationships, but we definitely take this kind of thing very seriously. I'll make sure that they appropriate people are aware of this situation.

If anyone has the name of the seller or any additional info from the deleted ad, that would be helpful.

Tyler I don't think you will find it was a dealer that was selling them, rather an individual who was able to purchase a large quantity since no restriction was placed on how many could be ordered by one address. How about the 30% off a Amazon.ca? I know of a lot of people that got a second Xmas because of that one.

With the records you keep, it shouldn't be to difficult to determine who it was.

How many Toronto dealers ordered 80 + sanders and had them delivered in the last week or so ?  Even if it was an indiv. , your local rep. should easily be able to talk his way with dealers into finding out who had such a fantastic customer that ordered 80 Festool sanders.

"We'd like to make them customer of the month/year and have a special prIze for them"  - ought to get the ball rolling.  As an additional incentive, the dealer who has the winning customer would  a spiff.

[member=57769]TylerC[/member]  - does, or did Festool have an official position on the Pro5 selling price with regards to dealers that ordered stock, but chose not to take pre-orders ?  Would they have be allowed to sell the sander for whatever price they want want to charge under their dealer agreement and ten terms of the promotion ?

My dealings with companies that employ MAP pricing has been that there is a minimum price at which the item can be sold, but the sky's the limit in terms of the maximum that can be charged.

I'm not entirely sure of the details, but I think this was an oversight on the part of Amazon.ca that allowed the promo code to work on Festool.  Probably got the "don't do that again" speech.

If there was a 20% discount at any U.S. Festool dealer, then my credit card issuer would be calling me to make sure my card was not stolen and I had not lost my mind.
