Good morning folks.

After more than a year's absence, I'm back on FOG.    For those of you who know the story, it doesn't need to be retold.  For those of you who haven't heard it, it's not really worth retelling.   Suffice it to say that I'm very happy to see the changes in administration.   Christian, Martin, Shane, and the whole Festool team are great people and have my sincere admiration for taking on the challenge of managing a large, busy forum like FOG.

For those of you who don't already know, I'm an admin on talkFestool - a similar forum to FOG.   I like both forums and will be posting on both.   Hopefully I can add value as a member of FOG.

To help prevent confusion...

If you search for my account name - Dan Clark - you'll probably find one of 1,000+ posts.  However, all of these posts currently have "Dan Clark" as the member name and "Guest" as the title.   When you click on the name, nothing happens.

Going forward, my posts will look pretty much the same, but the member name will be active.  Apparently this has happened to several accounts of former members.   The Festool folks are aware of the issue and are working on it, but it may take while.   I.e., please don't report this as a bug.  This won't get the issue fixed faster and will only increase their workload.

EDIT: Shane jumped all over this VERY quickly.  My old posts are now linked correctly!!!  Way to go Shane.  (Virtual two thumbs up)

I'm happy to see old friends like Brice, Dave, John, Laurie, Ned, and a whole bunch more.

Best regards,

Dan.

Welcome Back Dan...glad to see you on the FOG again.  Thank you for the kind words.  We will work to resolve these types of issues, as we transition into our new roles as stewards of the FOG.  In the interim, we appreciate your understanding and patience.

Martin

Hi Dan,

Have enjoyed reading many of your postings on TF, and as a new member who wasn't around when you were last here, am looking forward to getting to know you here.

Cheers,
mac

Dan,

Glad to have you back.  Sorry you left in the first place.  As Mac said I have also enjoyed your posts on TF.

Just curious, with all the "old" posters returning to the FOG, do you see the continued need for two Festool forums?  Can Festool enthusiasts support two forums?

We all value your input and look forward to hearing more from you.

Neill

Mac, Neill,

I have many friends in FOG.  Looks like I added two more.  :)

Regarding two Festool forums...  I don't want to turn this into a discussion of the relative merits of each forum.  But yes, I do think there can be two forums.

FOG and talkFestool have a somewhat different style, flavor and culture.  Both are very good, just different.  Some folks will enjoy ambiance of one more than the other.  It's personal preference.

Since it's easy to cross-link between forums, members of both forums can spend most of his/her post in the forum of their choice and can easily cross link a good thread in the other forum.  It just takes a second.

In the future, who knows what will happen?  There's great content and great people in both forums.  The members will decide our joint futures.  It's not something I worry about.  :)

Regards,

Dan.

I think your math is a little off, Dan.  You have added a lot more than just two, unless you meant to say "too many to count."

Welcome back,

Richard

Festool does not believe that there is any issue with having multiple forums, and as Dan stated...each has it's own flavor.  There are a number of other forums that exist as well, and we think they are all good and serve a purpose.  As a friend once told me "Some people like beer, some like wine, some like whisky, and some don't drink at all...but at the end of the day...we're all just people trying to make the best of the hand we've been dealt."

I think the primary goal is to help woodworkers become better woodworkers, and we appreciate everyone who contributes here or at any of the other forums.  We only ask that members try to stay on target and respectful here at the FOG...hope that helps.  I would personally like to see the FOG become the premier forum for getting answers to all things Festool in a straight forward way with less off topic discussions, as this has been the role it has served in the past.  I think that is why most people come here.

Martin,

I feel the same way.  My question was strictly from an opinion point of view not from a "we should" or "should not" point of view.  Personally, I like having multiple forums.  I also like having some sense of friendliness and respect between the posters. As was posted in another thread, "we need more smiles". :)

Richard,

Thanks.  Yes, you're correct.  I meant, "too many to count."  Of course, I can't count higher than four!  :)

Dan.

Dan, it's good to see one of the FOG's best members make it back and I look forward to your insightful posts here again. Plus I can't wait to see if the two thumbs up award for good pictures returns.

Dan,

I think there is an old joke about the guy who had to pull his pants down so he could count to 21... :D

Brice,

Thanks.  I'll have to look for them.  Looks like they've gone bye-bye.

Best Regards

Colin.

Another attaboy for Shane and Martin.  Shane's been working hard to get the database sorted out, and re-associated my posts very quickly.  On his day off, I think.  Thumbs up, and thanks.

Ned

Ned,

I am indeed on vacation visiting family back in Virginia.  But the web never sleeps so neither do I ;)  Just glad to have you guys back.  I look forward to seeing both the forums grow and succeed.  We have a lot of guys out there that have a wealth of knowledge to share.

Shane

Hopefully Fred the smiley king will return and as well as our resident poet Per.
