Does anyone here work with HID lighting or know about it?

I installed low wattage HID in my new shop 5 years ago. I love it, except for the noisy ballast, and I recommended some low power units to someone who is converting a barn. But the low powered HIDs I bought from Griot's Garage (online) are no long available from Griot's. I was looking for a source of 150W fixtures, not the 'rocket exhaust' sized lamps you see on the ceilings of Home Depot or Costco.

Gary,

How about a photo or description of the light fixtures you are looking for?

I don't have a digital camera, but thanks. These fixtures are flat squares, having a low profile. A telephone call to Griot's Garage company informed me that they don't carry HID lighting any longer. They tried to foist off some 3-phosphur, 6 bulb fluorescents on me. I tried to explain that the long bulbs are a PIA in a shop with sawdust in the air.

Similar to what I've got. Do you know of a website with a chart that shows the Lumens or Foot Candles on a surface from various mounting heights?

My recollection for Ft-Candle demand was about 100/Ft2 for detail work on a benchtop and about 70-80/Ft2 for machinery or general shop usage.
