HL850 + Stand, what size systainer?

I just picked up a HL850 and want to pick up the bench unit and angle guide.

Does anyone have all of this fit into one systainer? What size works, is there a way to still fit it into a regular sys3? Or would it have to be moved to a sys4 or maybe a Sys midi 3?

It might be a few weeks before I order the bench unit and I wanted to start planing on a space in my van for the systainer.

I have the bench unit. I don't have it in a systainer yet but it did some preliminary test fitting.  I am pretty sure it is a little too big to fit in a Sys- III no matter which way it is positioned.

Hmm, that 200mm would be tight in a sys 3 [unsure]

I'm sure I read somewhere it fits in the systainer mounted in the stand.  Might be the old systainers.

Firstly, the stand makes the HL850 a really nice machine to use, so I would not hesitate to get it - without it, you do not get the full benefit of the machine.  It becomes an excellent mini benchtop planer, and just purrs.

My HL850 originally came in a (Festo) Sys4, but I have changed all my systainers to T-loc and the latest packaging is a Sys3, which is much tidier.  I keep the stand, side fence and the dust bag (not that I use it) in a separate Sys3.

I tried the whole unit together and it would fit in a Sys4, but on mine the cable sheath bulges the side out which would be annoying (the latest version may be more flexible, I don't know).  It only takes a minute or two to assemble the stand and I find it packs away nicely like that.  On reflection, you may find it difficult to squeeze in the side fence (even if detached), with the planer on the stand.

Sorry, I should have explained better that the second pic I included above shows that the whole assembly fits lengthwise (subject to the cord) and widthwise - this was in a Sys 3 which is an inch or two too short heightwise; therefore a 4 would work (might be tight with the foams I don't know - the stand alone only just fits (nicely) the 3 heightwise without foams).

I just received the HL850 for Christmas, and my lovely wife picked up the stand and fence for me for a Birthday gift.  I'm looking forward to working with them today.  Got to love her !

I just put the stand assembled in a separate systainer. find it easier that way.

I use the planer alot without the stand so for me it was best to keep them separate

Looks like a Sys-IV (Classic) that holds the assembled unit.

My hope was to get the 850 in the stand maybe laying on it's side into a sys 3 even if I have to take the angle stop off. I have an EHL 65 too so I'm not too worried about removing the 850 from the stand on a regular basis.

Any thoughts on laying it down?

As I recall, the guard pivot makes it stick up too tall even on its side for a Sys-III.

I remembered incorrectly. The stand will fit in a Sys- III both Classic and T-Loc.

Got the stand and angle stop today. I can get all of the parts into a sys3 with the 850 but it is not pretty. [blink]

I guess I have to decide if I want to make this work or purchase a sys4 and find the space for it in my van or deal with it as it is.

Or just go with planer in one Sys -III and the accessories in a second.  I wonder if going to a Midi Sys would make the difference?

I have a sys midi, I'll have to empty it and give it a try.

Here is a picture of everything in an old style sys3 and one in a sys3 midi.

I think the midi is the way to go, I am going to play with the layout of the items a bit.
