Ok, you guys must have been telling all your buddies about what a rockin' place the FOG is lately. We've seen a 30% increase in visitors just in the past 2 months or so. That's crazy. The forum has seen substantial growth over the past year and a half since it changed ownership. I'm in awe of the success of the forum and contribute it all to the amazing members contributors that we have. A big thank you to every one of you!

So what's the big deal? Well, the forum has been running a little slower lately because all of the new traffic is taxing our server during periods of heavy use. I just wanted everyone to know I'm on top of this and will be making some changes soon to help get things running top speed again very soon.

For all of you new visitors to the site: well, take 2 minutes and register an account! We'd enjoy hearing from you.

Thanks,
Shane

What can I say? Kreg converted me! [eek]

I bought all the stuff, now I just have to figure out how to use it! Got my 3rd order today!! [big grin]

Well Mr. Admin,

I was going to post a PM to you and say Congrats.

February is the shortest month of the year after all, but we have had new highs in New threads, new posts, and also page views.  Outstanding number of new members.

Shane,  congrats!

this shows the great forum that this is, the lengths the members will go to help each other out.
i love this forum because there is a good feeling to it, there is no back bitting and condisending nature to the posts even when a newby asks one of the overly discused topics. exept for the pocking the fun at JMB speak but thats ok  [poke]

looks lik all the reviews and videos are catching the eye of the newbes. great meketing idea that was. google most things festool and the fog is at least half the replies.

I had noticed it was sometimes slow to access (and rarely, not available) but I thought that was just me...

This is simply a symptom of an evil plot guys (and gals).  [blink]

Make the best tools with lousy owners manual creates a need for a resource (forum) needed to figure out real tool usage.

This forum in turn itself now creates more awareness of Festool's amazing line of tools AND HOW THEY WORK, which helps increase sales, which then again increases forum traffic from new owners looking on how to get the most out of their tools.  [huh]

No wonder there's always forum "how-to" contests.  [wink]

You know what this means don't you?  Those manuals aren't going to get better anytime soon.  [sad] If anything, they'll get worse if my theory is correct.  [scared]

Or is the increase simply based on the great job the forum staff is doing around here  [blink] ........Naaaahhhh!  [big grin]

Good "problem" to have.  Thanks, Shane, for keeping the forum running so smoothly!

Well, it sure can't be due to search engine results. Even Brice's site ranks higher on certain terms [tongue]

Although lately the returns seemed to have moved up marginally.

Shane:
When I search (using the FOG search) I used to be able to reorder my search returns by clicking the date at the top of the column and get my returns sorted by date. It isn't working now, or at least the link is not active when I mouse over.
Has this been turned off or is this just my machine.
I am using Firefox 3.6, on a MS XP.

My bad! I wrote an experimental crawl-bot and forgot to turn it off after the last round of unit testing.....  [cool]

Time to move to a virtual/cloud hosting service. One call and you can get more resources allocated, for a price. Easer then adding hardware or more server on your own.

Greg,

We use a hosting company, so there no hardware or server equipment that we have to maintain. I will be adding another dedicated server for the forum.

so what's the headcount on members?  What's the busiest day ever and how many unique visitors did we have?  How many visit on an average day?  Just curious...
???

Howard, some of those stats can be found on the stats page of the forum.

http://festoolownersgroup.com/stats/

The others, I don't share those and speak more in generalizations and percentages. Visitors and pageviews have more than tripled since we took over the forum in July of 2009. How many visitors do we have per day... a heck of a lot.  [wink]

there is absolutely no doubt in my mind this forum has driven Festool sales considerably since Matthew started it.  The trend shown in the stats is remarkable in how it has progressed over the last few years.  How many of us might not have ever even thought about buying anything from Festool until we stumbled upon this site?  Speaking only for myself, every dollar I have spent over the last three years on Festool tools and accessories has been directly attributable to what I have read here.  In that regard, it has been a very expensive forum but worth every dollar!  Yes, my skill as a woodworker has improved but having this system has made my projects just that much better and a heck of lot more enjoyable to build.  Fortunately, or may unfortunately,? my office is about 5 minutes from my Woodcraft store.  I have spent a lot of time down there and I know a lot more about Festool than their sales folks so I often demonstrate something when a customer is looking at a tool.  It's fun!  I usually know about the new tool offerings before the store manager does!  How does that happen?  FOG happens!

It does appear that the traffic has increased quite a lot recently. One thing that stands out for me is that the 'average' number of users online per day is 213.5. Today, the number is almost double that at 425.

One question on the stats - when a stat is given as an 'average', what timeframe is that based on? Is it averaged over, say the last 12 months, or the average since day 1 of the forum?

I never even saw that forum stat clickeable button before.  That is so cool!  Love looking at stats sometimes.  Thanks for bringing that to our/my attention Peter.
