Home Improvement to The White House being dismantled!

So, immediately following the election, a bunch skilled carpenters, steel and HVAC engineers and bomb-proof glass experts started a new home improvement project in front of the White House.  It would eventually become the Presidential Parade Viewing Stand.  Probably cost a gazillion dollars.  They started dismantling it this week.  I thought these pictures I took today were interesting.  Behind all the steel and bomb-proof glass was just a bunch of white pine 2x4s supporting some 2x12s.  Probably not a lot of Festool products used.  But,still interesting that it was just an embellished wood home improvement project for a really important customer.

PS: Note the Secret Service Officer in the foreground.  8)
PPS: I also included a picture I took of the White House dome right before the Parade.  That is not exactly a 22 that the sniper is holding. [wink]

They're just image-stabilized binoculars, Ranny.  The really good toys are out of sight, not shouldered unless there's a need, and are not generally fired off-hand in any case.

Wow the money that is spent on stuff used for a few hours... It would be nice if the lumber was recycled into a home for the under privileged.

Good point about waste.  What is even worse is the viewing stand opposite Penn Ave was 3 times bigger and reserved for VIPs (large donors?)!

Oh, but you know, they "deserve" it.

Lets keep this thread on track about the stand construction and lumber reuse, and not venture off into politics,  and such.

hmmm,

Ever been to a movie set?
There are times whole sets are built for only a few minutes air time.

Yes, but if the set only knew it was supporting Megan Fox, it would be proud... Now wait for Paul-Marcel to join in since we just spoke-typed-uttered Megan's name...... [wink] [wink] [wink] [wink]

It nice to see that the tradesmen who build for such important clients throw their crap under the deck.

Or is that brat signal [wink]

(She may be a very nice and compassionate person, I just couldn't resist. Thinking they're all brats comes from raising 2 daughters I guess).
