The early photos made it look huge, but I'm guessing the unit is about 600mm ??

What did you use for determining the correct geometry?

Hi, Kev.
my English is not very good ,
first i cut 2 round pics to make the base.... if you like tomorrow i give you the measures .. , then i puted the strips of wood around (was a bit trick ) masking tape, rubber band around to hold everything together  , then i got nice cyclone shape,  then  i put epoxy resin with micro balloon . then i sand everything to get perfect , the i put one layer of fibre glass to make it very strong and last forever :) , then primer , and top coat car paint .

My English is only average ... and it's the only language I have  [big grin]

I'd be very interested to know how well it separates the debris is collects.

I've been toying with the idea of making a cyclone in the back of my mind. I'd build it using a Sys5 Systainer as the collector and fabricate it so that the systainer lid was the cyclone adaptor plate when upside down (so the entire thing looked like a normal sys5 with a hole in the top when it was being stored away).

One of the things that's holding me back is simply a lack of need - I have a CT36 and it's still on the first bag!

Very nicely done, the Finnish is superb.  One thing though, how many hours went into that ?  Makes me wonder if you calculated your time + materials into it then you would prob have been much cheaper to just buy the Oneda one ?

Your does look nice though.

Even though I feel completely taken advantage of to pay Oneida's price for the cheaply made dust deputy, every homemade version I have seen involves more work and materials than just ponying up the money and asking, "Does that come with Vaseline?".

Nice job though!

I concur, I built a 5hp dust collector for my shop.  It was a total PITA, but it was relatively cheap compared to buying one from Onieda at the time.  They have since come out with better entry models.  I would never do it again, but mine does "SUCK".

Nice work Samer! Love the the paint.

You know, this looks like something that would be perfect for 3D printing. You might have to print in two pieces and glue them together due to the size, but otherwise straightforward. Not sure what the less than smooth interior surfaces would do to airflow though...

Looks good nice paint work.

Shame you painted it though I was looking through expecting to see this nice wooden stained cyclone  To then see it covered in paint  [sad]

Would it not been quicker laminating out of ply or something if you was planning on painting it?
