How did you kill the cell phone?

The day before yesterday was just another day under the black cloud.  I was installing crown molding in a bathroom and stepped down of of my stepstool.  The end of my hammer impacted the bottom of the cell phone.  The cell phone elevated, did two somersaults with one twist, banked off the vanity and landed in the commode.  The crowd was hushed and the judges graded the performance down due to the excessive splash when entering the water.

This is now the third cell phone I have killed on the job.

Has anyone else?  A good story might help my depression.  And before you ask, I did not get an iPhone 4.  I got an iPhone 3GS.

I haven't, but I saw my boss drop his cell into the harbour while we were discharging a ship. Unlike you, he didn't even have a body to grieve over.

My iPad did have several gallons on water dumped on it three days after it's birth.  The Apple cover protected it.  I threw those undergarments away.  [scared]

On our last day in Germany (before we moved to Canada), I dumped my cell into the toilet.... You know how it goes: Unbuckle, slide the pants down, the belt with the heavy phone slides out of the loop and down it goes [scared] [tongue] [crying]. On the display it said: No service  [big grin] Had a good laugh.

Cheers

So.......  I have to ask.....  After such a mishap, do you just flush?      [unsure]

This reminds me of a story told to me by a couple of guys I knew a few years ago. One of them owned a business, the other worked for them. They installed and maintained pumps for fire sprinkler systems.

After every installation, they had to test the pumps. Obviously, they couldn't test by pumping water through to the sprinklers themselves, so they pumped water from the top tank down a 'dump pipe' on the side of the building. On one job the boss came down to site to see the test taking place. He'd just bought a brand new Lexus, which he parked round the side of the building out of the way (can you guess where this is going?).

The test went fine, with several thousand gallons of water being pumped through in a matter of seconds (they were big pumps!). Everyone made their way round the building to where the vehicles were parked, to find the brand new Lexus looking slightly damp...

The water had punched straight through the sunroof, and filled the car completely to the brim! When the boss opened the door, he was hit by a wall of water. The guys all said it was just like a cartoon!

I can imagine you had a few frantic moments [eek]

Having had the annoyance & inconvenience of dropping/drowning/breaking several mobiles over the years I bought one of the Sonim toughphones. They are built to military spec, waterproof, dustproof, withstand 2m onto concrete etc etc.

Expensive initially but has survived a number of traumas!

This link is for the UK distributor but they are available in Europe and also the US. (Just as well not made by Festool then!! [big grin]

I have know of a couple of occasions where co-workers have lost either a wallet or cell phone in the crowded confines of a porta-potty.

Trying to learn from the mistakes of others,...... pants go down before the seat goes up, or in reverse, seat goes down before the pants go up!

Peter did you attempt to dry it?  I used my Fuji HVLP blower successfully on mine one time after it fell into clean water ...placed it into a ziplock bag duct taped to the end of the hose open enough for a vent and let it run for a few hours.  The trick is to take the battery out immediately and hope there is nothing in the water to form salts.

I was at my sisters house one day when she had to go upstairs to take a work call.  Newspaper in one hand, mug o tea in the other & the phone wedged between shoulder & ear.  Half way upstairs the phone decided it was thirsty & slid straight into the mug  [big grin]

I said how could anybody be so careless  [embarassed]

Can you see where this is going ?  About 3 days later whilst sitting at the breakfast bar reading the FOG on the laptop with my mobile in my hand, i went to reach over to grab something when !!!!  The dam phone slipped out my hand straight into my MUG OF TEA  [mad] [crying]

That was the secone one i drowned, the first landed in the dunny  [huh]  You don't need any more details on that one.

Woodguy.
