How do you store parts/fasteners?

I'm late replying to the party.  I use Bosch (Sortimo) to store my small parts.  Adam Savage was my inspiration (https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=1OPSbF6kM9k) for initially investing in the Sortimo system (specially branded Bosch since it's easiest to get in the US).

It is really nice to just be able to remove the individual bin of specific screws that I need rather than needing to take out the whole box.

Here is the idea I came up with. Used shelf pins and organizers from Harbor Freight. It's still a work in progress. Similar to DIY sys port and I am going to add drawers to the one for my systainers.

I also use the Bosch _L boxes. Buy them from CPOoutlets.
Cpo offers reconditioned L Boxes for $32.00 - $35.00 each , usually are L Boxes that have been used at trade shows - all the reconditioned items CPO sells offer 120 return policy also NO FINE print in the return policy.

Anyone using sortainers to store small parts? I got a 6 drawer sortainer a little while ago but haven’t really found a use for it. I like having my screws in the Sys 1 assortment box with the coloured bins. Maybe someone can show how they use theirs to give me some inspiration!

I've become a big fan of the Milwaukee 10 compartment deep organizer.

They stack like Systainers and the removable trays are easily reorganized.

I buy them at Home Depot for $25 each.

In the shop and in the truck I use Dewalt and Stanley boxes with the removable inserts. In the shop, I built this so I can leave them all in drawers and not have the boxes on the bench. [attachimg=1]

I use the Infinite Divider System by Flambeau which is sold by Lee Valleyhttp://www.leevalley.com/us/wood/page.aspx?p=32178&cat=1,43326. Several decades ago I built a 24" wide cabinet for use with bins. The inside width of the cabinet is 22 1/2" which fits two of the boxes, side by side.[attachimg=1]

I built a cabinet to hold Stanley hardware containers. The cabinet is sufficiently sturdy to hold the weight and the individual containers readily slide out to carry around the shop.  There is a built in keyboard tray that doubles as a pull-out shelf when I want to take out specific hardware sizes.

Dewalt Tough System organizers -- I bought 3, ditched two of the boxes themselves but kept the modular containers, and built shelving to hold them in my trailer. The idea was that I could grab whichever fasteners / containers i needed, put them in the tough box, and they'd be spill proof, water proof etc. In reality though I never used the tough box and got rid of it as well.

Now I keep a sys-roll with a few sortainers and transfer the contents from my shelves to the sortainers as needed. I do wish I had some bigger drawers on my sys-roll as I cant even fit my Dewalt impact without removing the battery, but it's still the best method I've found so far.

My needs are a bit more modest and small scale than shown thus far, so I standardized on the 18 compartment small organizers from Harbor Freight --- they're affordable enough that whenever I'm passing by, if I have time, I grab one w/ a 20% off coupon.

Since they're transparent, labeling isn't an issue, and they stack neatly enough, and mostly fit in other containers well, so have worked out (for example, I have all my archery stuff in one in an inexpensive plastic toolbox).

All of the odd containers are gradually getting pushed off to odd uses, or discarded/replaced as opportunity comes up.

OP, that looks like a great solution.  I have about the same number of the larger Stanley containers, but mine just ride around the shop floor on top of two Grizzly skates (don't know the proper name-it's a piece of plywood with casters).

I find them small enough to sort pretty finely (a specific size of metric hardware for instance), but large that there isn't much overlap until I get into the larger fasteners (1/4"-20 covers 3 containers I think).

call CPOoutlets , if no recon L boxes on website , when you call voice mail asks you to press ext. no.of person , I usually order from Dennis -ext.27106 - Dennis will check or contact you when some recon L Boxes are available. I prefer LBox 2-3-4 , other sizes available.

Have purchased from CPO for a number of years always very well satisfied , never had a problem .
