How fast is your network connection?

It's just as I thought. Download is decent, but upload pathetic.
Of course an upload from Melbourne goes through undersea cable to Pitcairn Island, where it is decoded by a toothless rumhag in a grass shack who scribes it on the shell of a coconut and attaches it to the breast of an african swallow. The bird flies to Papua New Guinea, where the shell is burnt in the pit of an open volcano, generating steady enough smoke for a staccato 'hi-speed' smoke signal to be generated. This can be read as far as Japan typically on a clear day, they then relay it by morse mirror to a naval base in Hawaii, where it is teletyped to a carwash in Gardena, CA.

Obviously, the movers finally delivered our stuff today and I found the computer box where I hid 3/4 (I mean half) a bottle of Glenmorangie.

great thread. I scored very poorly, but the error message explains (stopping to look at pictures along the way.)

It was 5 hours ago and I was making funny (ehh) cause I was too embarassed to show my PC Speed scores... all in the teens.
So I forked down $41 for a download version and the CD backup of SpeedUpMyPC 3 . The download was easy and the running was slow (3 hrs or so) -- about the same as if Ihad run MS System tools to do the same.
I couldnt wait to try the speed test with my reenvigorated PC. Slower (1500 to 2100).  Impressions: 1) I gained nothing as far as I could see and 2) I was had. The speed test graphics are superb and so convinving...but right now I think it is the PC version fo the "shell game".
I did write the company and hope I get a reply. Question to the forum...did any of you also make the purchase?

Oh well.

Wireless ISP: direct radio link to a mother ship (tower on a grain elevator), static ip,  40$/mo, no contract.  Not the fastest...but i am extremely happy with the service and speed.

Stu Ablett posted a message on another forum about how to test your Internet speed:http://www.speedtest.net/.  To test yours, just go the site and click a test site.  The recommended site is the pyramid in gold.  The speed test will run and then display your network speed.

I'm happy with my Internet access, but I had no idea it was THAT fast!

Dan.

I cannot get any of the tests to work on my Dell PC running Vista with an internet connection through Earthlink DSL.

In my case, it is probably either operator error, or the fact that I am near a PC.  My negative effects on things PC have become legend within my corporation.

Despite the above, all my PCs, both corporate and personnal appear to be working OK at present.
