How lazy can you get?

So, I decided to quickly clean out the ashes at the bottom of my BBQ grill last night before I started a new fire. So out comes my CT 26 and wanting to same time, I ended up vacuuming up the gobs of grease chips, rather than "wasting" time doing a scrape and dump. Took all of 30 seconds to do, but now I have a hose nicely lined with BBQ grease - just waiting to attract and attach to some sawdust and other debris! Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

Seems like you now have a dedicated BBQ cleaning hose.  [cool]

If you need to order a new hose there are a number of dealers that participate on FOG  [wink]

No worries, I do think your post was funny. But I suppose I could boil some water add some degreaser and run it through.

Hi Bob

If you need cleaning advice (which you probably don't) here you go...

In the UK we have a product sold as Sugar Soap and another sold as Soda Crystals (they may be almost one and the same) and they both cut the grease really well.

Sad as it may sound, about every two months I put a strong mixture of Soda Crystals dissolved in really hot water down all the sink and basin waste traps. It keeps everything flowing.

In your case I would have a couple of gallons of hot mixture that you run and re-run through the hose. Seal both ends with it in there and do a bit of "twist and shout - shake it all about" !

If that fails then make it look really nice on the outside, put it in some original packing and sell it to one of those people being so negative on the FOG - it will give them something else to gripe about  [wink].

Drain augers/ snakes can be used to de-clog vacuum hoses. Some types with detachable auger heads have brush attachments that can be used for “cleaning the inside of pipes.

The cost isn’t necessarily worthit just for cleaning vacuum hoses, but the augers are also usefull to keep around for pipes that get clogged.
 
I suppose you were in a much better plight than I was. Some guy did some renovation work in my house more than 15 years ago and asked for the use of the central vacuum system. Thinking he was cleaning up his dusty mess, I gave him the vacuum hose and whatnot.

Weeks later, when the cleaning maids came to do their routines as usual, they complained about poor suction. I went down to the basement where the vacuum unit is installed to see if the tank was too full. It was not. When I checked the hose and connector, I found dried plaster residue! That lazy bum tried to suck the plaster spills down the tube. As of today, I still have a poor performing central vacuum system.

 
Bob,  Good for you!  Use the tools was the message told to me.

Krudcutter is the most amazing general purpose degreaser that I have used.  As another Peter pointed out, warm to hot water, pour it in, work it back and forth and see what happens.

Bob been there done that. I used my midi to clean out my Egg for the first time. Not as bad on the grease end but i did spend 10 minutes letting water flush from one end to the other in our seldom used second bath tub. Add another 10 minutes to scrub out the black stains from the porcelain.

I would flush out what you can and then let krudcutter soak on the rest.

Last weekend my jeep needed cleaning. Grabbed the midi and under the seat I sucked up the fabric bag for my sunglasses. I just recently added a gorilla sleeve shrink wrapped to the hose which I find out makes clearing obstacles much more difficult. 
 
Sounds like a job for "cheap shop vac".... As my brother-in-law laughs about my festool hose costing much more than his whole shop vac.
 
A guy I worked with confessed he was a lazy bloke to the point of being comatose.
He was correct in some ways.
He never volunteered to undertake difficult projects but he never had to re-do any work he had done.
He never used hand tools if he could manipulate a power tool to do it for him.
He was happiest when being covered in MDF dust making MDF boxes that would be spray painted by others.
Never backward in coming forward to get someone else to problem solve for him.

He was great  [thumbs up] I got to make geometric staircases, make hand cut dovetailed cabinets and do curved work etc.
He was the shop foreman (being there the longest) but the other guys used to ask me for advice on jobs.
Lazy people make me look good, so I salute them all! Just don't use my Festool kit to clean your BBQ or it will be a Festool Green Hulk (wannabe) in your face  [big grin]

The only old saying about laziness that I know is, if you want to know the quickest way to do something watch the laziest person do it.
 
Tape one end shut.  Fill the hose with Simple Green, tape the other end shut and let it sit for a day or so.  Dump out the Simple Green and the gunk.  Rinse out the hose with clear water.  Let it dry.  Simple!  Green!

Bob, i am sure you can find a hose that is not only anti static, but grease free as well. You might check around with some festool dealers

[member=8712]Richard/RMW[/member] I had used a wood stove to heat my entire house for some 23 years.  The first year i had used it, on a warm day, i let the stove go out for a day and nite.  In the late morning, or maybe noon time I decided to use my Milwaukee shop vac (way before my intro to FesToys) instead of my stove shovel to clean out the ashes. I had a cloth filter in the top just above the inlet hose connection.  I had used the vac a couple of times already for the same purpose with no problem. When I finished sucking all the ashes out, I smelled smoke, or something burning. I took the top off to investigate and sure enuf, there had been one or two (or maybe more) cinders that had brushed against the cloth filter and it was smoldering away.

That was just the sort of stupidity i would have climbed all over any of my helpers if they had done the same thing.  Sooo, what did I do, but tell the whole crew the next morning?  They got a good laugh out of my story, but their laughter was followed up by a stern warning about the mayhem to be expected should any one of them make the same mistook.
