I have two CT22's first one sits under the WCR next to the MFT and the boom arm.  Almost never moves.
I got by with a shop vac with an intelligent switch for the Kapex, but a never used CT22 with a cleaning kit popped up on Craigslist one day and I couldn't refuse.

I've got small shop vacs dedicated to the drill press, oscillating sander, and general cleanup.

And my shop is still a mess!! [scared]

2 here, a 26 and a midi. Sold the ct 22 I had for ten years or so, and my old fein turbo 1.  I wish I had bought another 26, I personally find the inlet on the midi irritating for the amount of hose changing I do on site.

Two CT36 but just started thinking the green cool aid a few weeks ago! Guess will become more and the ultimate success will be when my wife gets a Mini for herself.

Using it for Kapex and the other for the rest. I use a large cyclone on one of them for sanding and rounting.

I just went to pick up my CT midi today. I used it for about 15 minutes today and it was amazing. Although a design project for school kept me away from it, I am going to use it a little more tonight/tomorrow.

HEPA filter is white , non-HEPA is yellow.

Yeah the Midi is an awesome vac, love mine. Just hate where the hose port on the vac is. But for portability it just can't be beat. It's a good vac to start with for sure.

Two:  I have a 22 with a Dust Deputy and boom arm - usually cutting sheet goods and crosscuts; and a 26 as it came from the factory.  Love them.

Yeah the Midi is an awesome vac, love mine. Just hate where the hose port on the vac is. But for portability it just can't be beat. It's a good vac to start with for sure.

The hose garage is awesome if I would ever need to pack up and go somewhere with my CT, but since I'll be in my shop 99% of the time, the hose staying out doesnt bother me. However, I can see exactly where you are coming from.

On my third Festool already, and I feel like another is going to join sooner or later.

I have a mini and a 36. Could quite easily grab another 26 or 36 in a next tool bundle ... I think 3 would fit my needs, but just 2 can be limiting and 1 is painful ... Probably stick a boom arm on the 36 and add a 26.

This week I added a Midi to my workshop. Its dedicated to a Kapex and works really well with a short 36mm hose.  A CT26 is set up with a boom arm and a MFT3 - a great combination.  I have an old Wertheim vac attached to my SawStop (top dust collection).  For general workshop cleaning I utilise a ducted vacuum system. Apart from having an extra system its economical - the bags for the ducted system are big and cheap!)

Another CT22 would be great (to use the same bags) but this would have to be a lucky find since I don't think they are available new anymore.

So I am thinking my next purchase should be a bundle with a second dust extractor, mainly for portable use and also to keep two tools in action in the shop.

The question is which one would best compliment my CT22 - I am thinking the Midi or even the CT26, there seems to be some frustration with the position of the port on the Midi.

My (almost 10 year old) CT22 has, like yours, been outfitted with a boom arm, some other (shop-made) stuff, and (recently) a work centre so can no longer be taken to the job site.

For portability, I use the Mini and quite like it.  [smile]  The only problem is the terrible location of the position of the dust port.  How could Festool make such a human factors goof?  And, since this problem has been known about and complained about for so long, why have they not fixed it?  [mad]  I have only had to remove the hose a couple of times in the 5 years I have owned the Mini but both time were very frustrating and time consuming.

The Mini and Midi are almost the same (Midi is 50mm higher) so I assume they share the same issue with access to the dust port.

It is hard to tell from the photos I have seen, can someone explain this problem a bit more?  Also any other considerations regarding the choice between these models.

To simplify for you, the Mini Midi shine in the portability area, but lack some of the accessibility features of the larger vacs. For example (and previously mentioned) the Hose Garage sits on top of the inlet for the vac end of the hose. The hose almost always needs to be completely  removed to get at it to swap hoses. And you insert a 36mm hose without the elbow, it's difficult to remove sometimes, actually alot of the time, because you can't get a full grip on the hose end because it's in a corner. Make sense? The right angle of the corner of the hose garage basically obstructs about 2/3rds of what you would normally get your hand around to twist. Doesn't sound like a big deal, and I certainly didn't give it enough it consideration when I got mine, but it is a nuisance. Now that I have increased the amount of tools that interface with the vac, this has become an important feature for me. Very annoying to swap hoses frequently on the smaller vacs, I cant' stress this enough. Also the cord storage on the larger vacs is separate, whereas the smaller mini/midi you cram it all into the hose garage. When it's cold the wire is a PIA to bend, and cram. Lastly, you ALWAYS have to remove your systainers to operate the smaller vacs, where are with the larger vacs you can still access hose/cord.

My advice, if mobility is most important to you, get the mini or midi. If you plan on getting into Festool and making an investment (and you will whether you like it or not) I would start with the CT26 as a first vac and the address Mobility later. Just my two cents.

PS- in case you hand't picked up on this detail, suction power is the same across all these vacs.
