Hi guys, I have a chance to pick up a Jet 5 hp, single phase, right tilt, 12 inch cabinet saw with a 52 inch fence for $1500.00 us. I think it is the JTAS series and it has the Xacta fence. He just replaced that arbor bearing and can prove it.

He also has two Powermatic 66TA's for $1400.00 each. They are both 5hp and left tilt with 52 inch fences.

It sounds like a steal to me, since a new one is around $3500.00.

Or...should I go for the Powermatic

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

J,

I recently purchased a 2006 10", 3.5(?) hp left tilt jtas with a 52" Incra fence for $700. It included an outfeed extension table and and a Woodpeckers router table on right side extension. The Incra fence, from what I can determine from their website, included their top-of-the-line kit. Extrusions for the router fence, some sort of elevated fence for vertical panel raising, etc. It also included a pretty stout mobile base for the saw and extension table. I'm sure I'm forgetting some of the included accessories, but when I added up the current retail for everything I bought, it came out to around $2900. The price you have quoted seems fair if the saw is in good shape - it does have nearly twice the hp as the one I bought. That being said, I have yet to find a material that my saw can't handle. The one thing that would bother me about the saw you're considering is the right-tilting blade. I've used them, and have nothing positive to say. Some people prefer them. Make sure you're comfortable with that before you jump in. Personally, I'd opt for one of the left-tilt models you've listed. Good luck with your purchase decisions.
