How new is your Kapex and where did you get it?

Hello everyone.  I'm ready to buy a Kapex and want to get one that is relatively current.  I bought one at the local Woodcraft, it had an alignment problem and returned it.  Festool tech support said it was a manufacturing problem.  Basically the saw had a severe left toe-in.  As I worked though this adventure it came to my attention that the saw I purchased new three weeks ago was manufactured 07/2008.  Seems like old stock if you ask me.  I'm ready to try another Kapex but only if I can find one that was made in the last 12 months versus one over two years old.

That said, I'm curious if anyone has a saw made in 2009 or 2010 and if so where you purchased it.  I'm in Columbus, OH and appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks,
Charlie

Many or probably most manufacturers embed that information on exterior labeling for version & stock control.  If you ask one of these very good Festool dealers that hangout on FOG they would probably be willing to check the date & sell to you accordingly.  When you deal with the larger houses the guy that actually picks stock for your order is probably a half dozen people removed from whoever you talk with to place the order & that sort of personalized service just isn't going to happen.  Just my thoughts.

Charlie,

Very sorry to hear about the bad experience with your Kapex. It may be true that the issue was a manufacturing defect of some sort with that particular unit (I don't know the specifics) but there have not been any alignment issues with an entire "batch" of Kapex units.  Basically, I just wanted to let you know that the issue has nothing to do with the manufacturing date.  If you feel more comfortable with a unit that was manufactured more recently based on your bad experience, then I can understand your reasoning.  If there's anything I can do to assist you, feel free to contact me.

Hi Charlie,
I've had mine since 08 I estimate, maybe a bit longer....  As with all the festools, awesome!  No probs with alignment.  I did have a problem with rotating it after I left in the back of my truck in the direct sun for a couple hours one day.  ( yes, it was in my view the entire time... )  ;D.  Somehow, managed to "melt" a plastic piece in the rotating handle that destroyed the clearance for the degree scale/handle.  As usual, Festool customer service took incredible care of me, and no troubles since!
( I don't leave it in direct sunlight anymore either!) [big grin]

Rec'd mine about 6 weeks ago from Bob Marino.

It stays in the shop since I have 3 SCMS for job sites.

The lasers were off big time but a few minutes adjusting all is perfect. DC is ok but I am using my 2 hp DC instead of a shop vac.

I did get the crown stops as well, they work great not only for crown but as clamps for smaller longer stock...

Mine is 0 days old and I got it nowhere. You guys really know how to rub it in!  [big grin]

I had a job to finish this weekend in the shop and the Kapex got quite a few hours of use. I had to cut a lot of molding, wood edge banding and crown.

The Kapex worked great. Even cutting very thin 1/16"-1/8" thick wood banding without chipping, tearing out or throwing the small cut offs everywhere. I use a backer board when I have small cut offs and would not have done these cuts with my other 3 SCMS.

Now that I have the lasers dialed in, no more droppng the blade to check the cut before cutting.

Nice to be able to choose cutting speed as well.

I am very pleased with this purchase...
