hi shane and everybody else. is there any way that you can have some thing on each thread that yould tell you which post you stoped reading at and where to start again . some thing like the NEW on the front page. it is very hard to find you place sometimes after not reading of a day or two as sometime there can be 20 or 30 new to me posts . i would not mind having to  press a button to tell it to save my place if that helps.

other than that keep up the good work .

Doesn't the "UNREAD POSTS since last visit" link do what you're asking ?

Also, each individual thread in a sub-forum has a "NEW" icon beside the title if a new post has been made in it.

when i am on the home page, if i scroll all the way to the bottom, there is a complete history of all posts with the date to the right. Not sure if thats helps you or not.

When you use the unread posts feature, and you have more than one screen of threads, I have noticed a problem.

If you open a tab for each thread that interests you from the first page, and then proceed to the next page of thread listings, some threads that would have been at the top of that next page will be GONE!

To make sure you don't miss nay, you can either start looking on the last page of threads and work back to the first, or you can refresh the page you are on before moving on to the next one.

sorry thats not exactly what i meant. i mean when you  are in a thread and have read all the posts you could set a point or the forum software would remeber the last post viewed. this would be helpfull when you go to read the next day as there will (hopefully [tongue]) be new posts to the thread you were following. scrolling down to the bottom doesnt always get you easily to where you stoped reading . a little symble or logo could mark this and help find the first new post

Alan -

First, make sure you are logged in and have set the system to remember you.

What you are asking is how I read the forum using the "NEW" button on each thread.  From the home page, I just click on each forum that has new posts and then click on NEW green button in each thread that I want to read.  It indexes me to the exact place in the forum where I last read to.

I go through each of the threads reading what's interesting and ignoring the rest.

Then I go back to the home page and in the lower right corner of the page I click on "mark all posts read" which clears the unread threads I bypassed as not interested.
Works for me like a champ across two computers and an iPad - so I'm always in sync with what's new versus reviewed.

Make sense?

damn , iknew i was asking something stupid. of coarse there would be that function . i never tried pressing the new button .

thank you so much , this will speed up everything and allow more time for drooling over tools instead of acting like one ( by that i dont mean a festool but a useless brand) [wink]

I know its something different but can their be a tick box which you can untick your self from.  I have threads which come up in new replies which I have either lost interest in or I have nothing else to say on it any more and do not wish for it to keep popping up in my new reply.  I just keep clicking read all to remove them.
