How to obtain festool product database and photos?

Hi All,

Is there anyone here that know how one would obtain -as a non dealer- a simplified database (can be csv, excel, etc.) with Festool product numbers and their description as-well as the photographs that belong to them? Obviously in a legit way.

There are several CDN (content distribution network) sources that retailers tap into. Why don't you call Festool in Lebanon and ask them how a dealer gains access to their product listing.

My advice is to contact [member=101]Festool USA[/member] for assistance. As authorized dealers, Festool allows us to use their product data and images which are copyrighted. You would need to obtain permission from them to use their intellectual property.

I'm EU based, so I would go to the source then. I guess Germany would be my best best. Just curious how is the data provided to dealers? CSV, Excel, .. ? Any EU dealers around (should have mentioned that, sorry  :-[) that could shine a light? Getting this feeling not being a official dealer will make it a challenge to obtain.  [scared]. Ironically, even when FT would benefit from this on the long run....

What to use its for?
Well for a longer time I'm frustrated with the incredible complicated way the Festool website works. On a scale of 1 (worse) and 10 best, I would give them on best of days maybe a 3. If there tools work the same way as their website, I guess we would not have this forum  [big grin]

I have a structure in mind to make this information much more accessible. Obviously I could scrape the data here and there, but as you said, rather go the legit way of doing so.

At least in the U.S., information is not provided in a spreadsheet with all attributes for a given product. Product data is much more ad hoc. Not sure how it's done in Europe where I believe Festool has a PIM system there.

You could always look on a dealer's website. Certainly there must be some good dealer websites in Europe. I would suggest using our website, but there's a gap in product offerings in the U.S. vs Europe.

I'm afraid of that as-well. However if you think about it, seems pretty ludicrous to no be able to release the basics. P/N, name of tool and a photo. Not that of much an issue, what would be the harm? On top many blogs are using their photos just by downloading it and publish without written consent.  I'm not a lawyer and not sure at which point you would be crossing the line... Hoped someone of FT here would give some insight...?

Yeah well I could parse the PDF I guess, missing the photos. Or ask the FOG to send me some pictures  [tongue]

Well this is a great example of 'whistling in the wind'. In other words it ain't going to happen - no company would do this.

As for the FESTOOL website - one of the biggest failures I have seen of implementing the KISS principle!  [eek]

Looking further into this I noticed that price comparison website also have the photos stored on their own CDN.
