How to "Pamper your tools in a cosy SYSTAINER space!"

That is a terrifc idea.  [thumbs up]

I've wanted to do something like this for a number of things.  Now I know how!

Now we only need to determine what's the best foam for this?

Durability, handling and especially for many "Pampers" in a small shop I would look for the most environmental friendly product, because the better part will be open to give off whatever pollutant (isocyanates, flame retardants, etc....) might be in it. Although that will probably be quite a task.

Dow low expansion window and door foam works well, just tried it with a utility knife and a small piece of my wife's tupperware, lol  might be served a cold dinner tonight = (

now just looking for a more attractive durable material then an old t shirt that has the same stretchy characteristics. wonder what my wife has in her closet!!!

Dang, that's a lot cheaper than my 3D printing idea!

So you could build form boxes and build multiple layers to stack in Sys too.....

Also, could be used to make forms for vacuum forming inserts like those that Festool has. Would take two steps (first the positive , then the negative) before you vacuum formed. But could work.

That is what I was curious about whether the window foam (softer) would work better than the normal stuff.

can also probably make inserts for various different power tools then the cheap brittle parasitic inserts you get with the boxes.

i made a couple for some of my handguns tonight

You could also take the inserts out, flip them over, fill the underside with foam.  Once dry take a hand saw and trim it flat.  Done deal.

I am rough on my systainers but have yet to break an insert.  I have damaged the exterior of my systainers though by my actions.

peter i said brittle,, but i didn't mean brittle as in they break, i have not broken one yet. i just meant a little more solid and tighter fit, like a nice snug fit

I am sorry.  I took it that you - like many others have posted over the years- broke some inserts.  I have never understood how.

But insulating the bottom and then also doing a similar thing for the top might also help with drills batteries and constant temps.

Hope we are ok?

Peter

What about wax paper or perhaps Saran Wrap?

Saran Wrap may move but wax paper may not.

all good pete. I'm not very sensitive, lol

saran wrap or wax paper i don't think is a good idea. wax paper would just wrinkle and look bad, and neither sedan wrap or wax paper would be very durable and would wear off. but i have thought that wax paper would be good to lay out in the bottom of the form instead of news paper for a clean break after you open it.

I'm thinking like pool table felt, lol

Perhaps I misunderstood the question.

My thought about wax paper and Saran Wrap was to allow the foam to mold around the tool in place of the tee shirt so the profiles would be more crisp.

I would think that whatever you put between be something of a solid non see thru nature.  That spray foam stuff ends up getting pretty ugly over time when exposed to daylight/sun.

In the metalworking world, don't they have a spay or brush on release compound to get patterns to pop out of molds?
Also used for fiberglass.

I'm thinking Grainger Catalog here in the US.
