How to set lower minimum plunge depth Domino

The Domino depth of cut is 10 mm (5/8"). In order to drill into 1/2" stock without blowing through other side, is there any way to reduce depth to 3/8"? I assume only way is to tape a (1/4") shim to faceplate of Domino. Am I overlooking anything?

It depends on the bit you are using.

Standard cut depths are
If you use the any other than the 4mm bit the depths of cut are 12, 15, 20, 25, and 28mm
If you use the 4mm bit the depths of cut are 2, 5, 10, 15, and 18mm because the bit is 10mm shorter than the others.

For other non standard depths as brice has mentioned Ric C has the answer.

Many thanks Brice - to restate the article par. here for ease of other readers, it installs a bushing over the linear rail, limiting travel of the plunge. Great idea - never thought of that. Thx.

i'm in the same boat.. trying to use the df500 on 1/2 stocks. I understand by using the pvc we can create smaller plunge, but to use the 40mm, we'll need a larger plunge than 28mm. If that's not possible, does it mean we have to cut the domino as illustrated in the same guide? humm.. not very convenient.

The 4mm dominos only come in 20mm lengths so they shouldn't require shortening even with the shorter length of the 4mm cutter.

You're right. 10mm on both sides.

So 10mm will be ok for 1/2" stock? it won't go through?

It will not go through. But you need to be really careful, especially if using 1/2" sheets that you don't blow out the mortise during glue up. Especially on the narrow mortise setting, the glue creates hydraulic force that can easily burst through the wood.

Yes, and don't drive them in with a hammer or anything. There is only about 1.5mm - 2mm  left after cutting the face  mortise. If the domino  is smacked in , it can easily crack through the opposite face. Beyond that I have done 10mm on 1/2"  plywood plenty of times without any incidents.

I use these shims from Amazon to make domino holes in 1/2" ply. Easy to put on and take off. I read about them here on FOG I believe.
