I just received my Hultafor's tape measure today bought through Amazon. It's a really neat well thought out tool! Since I go through Amazon Prime, there was no postage charge.

Interestingly enough, I ordered a Kapex zero clearance insert about the same time and it has yet to arrive.

I know it's been almost a decade since this post, but I recently came across this tape measure in a Peter Millard video and then found it in a couple other videos.

I'm intrigued by it, but have some questions. Everyone describes using this as a measurement transfer device, not an actual measuring device. So, the first question is what are the profiles of the marking pins like? Are they sharp knife-edge like a true marking knife? The only in-use video I saw was from a drywaller (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4gpLD5SE6w ),

where he took an inside measurement, then moved to his drywall panel and scribed a mark. OK, well, drywall's not an exact thing. How would this work for measuring an inside cleat where you wanted a perfect fit side to side?

How do you even read the thing? Here's a shot from another video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQkP_Lhe2hA ):

Where's the witness mark? Is it the edge of the plastic case, or the edge of the metal guides, or something else? And since the tip doesn't move is that only for inside measurements or only for outside measurements?

Speaking of the tip, here's a shot:

That doesn't look great to me, but it seems that the tip is set for an outside measurement.

So, what's all the buzz about this metric tape measure?  I'm not seeing it.

It's pointed, but not razor tipped.  Will definitely leave a mark on softwoods and trim.  I don't even bother reading the thing... the pic you have if you wanted to read it, should be 51mm.  Both the front plastic and metal foot tabs are aligned together.  The lever mechanism pushes the tape towards the metal tabs and becomes perpendicular to the casing.

There is no slop on the end tab.  It's not the standard innie/outie slop type.  Inside measurements should be using the provided rollout extension which has the required compensation.  Also adds 10mm and there are reminders denoted in (RED) along the tape.

I have a 2 metre and a 6 metre Hultafors tape and I always use them if I am doing inside measurements but my go to every day tape is a BMI Quicky, it is so compact and fits my hand and pocket far better than a conventional tap, it can also be used as a straight edge for drawing lines which is very handy on bigger jobs.

Just ordered a BMI Quicky.  Hard to find in the US. Will report back when I get it - in about 8 weeks!
