he looks very well dug in, and that is their natural defence. If you had of tried to move him,  you would of had a hard task indeed

[size=14pt]Yes indeed, still why move it when he/she is doing good in the under house environment. Moved itself within an hour, unfortunately to an area still under the house but in view of the dog pen.  [eek] Crazy dog, till I brought him inside. Echidna safe and well.

As can be read, a lot has happened since that day of plumbing!  [big grin]

Nothing like finding an Echidna ... on a very rapid MTB descent years ago I manged to hop a massive flyblown Wombat. The guy trailing me wasn't so lucky and hit it at full pelt. It was messy!! [eek] [sad]

Many years ago when I was a commercial construction project manager I was in charge of a new large big box store outside of Seattle.  The developer was from Australia.  The stories he told about hitting a kangaroo and having it end up inside a car with its claws would be a great basis for a horror movie.

I am sure there was some 'Aussie Embelishment' Peter.  [smile]

None the less Kangaroos and other wildlife do certainly suffer considerably on rural and outback roads. There are two Roos berried on our property following accidents with cars on the front road. Fortunately our neighbour has a BobCat.

If you drive from Adelaide to AliceSprings, and on to Darwin, Road Trains and Express Busses travel at night, their lights dazzling Roos particularly at dusk and early morning. Big Bull Bars are very necessary [See Video]. Driving a car at night on this and other outback highways is very risky - road trains and animals.

The following academic article puts some perspective to the problem and makes some comparison with elk, moose and deer incidents/accidents on NA roads.

And it is more unsafe to swerve to miss, rather than hit the Roo -

But there are ways to reduce the risk to everyone and our animals -

And what is a road train?

Thank you for those articles and videos!  Always interesting to see how issues might be similar yet different elsewhere.

I have no doubt "Aussie Embellishment" might have been involved in the stories told to me based on the contents of the pint(s) he consumed.  [big grin]
