I made a boom-boom

Hey everyone,

I thought I would share with everyone the process of building a boom arm for my CT26.  Since I am only a weekend woodworker, there isn't much extra money for all the Festool products out there.  I figure what money I saved from Festools boom arm I will spend on either an OF 1400 router or a DF 500
domino cutter.

Anyway here are some of the pictures.  I think it turned out quite well.  Fortunately, I run a laser cutter at work and it came in handy when I had to make some of the bracket pieces.

I call it my "Boom-Boom"

Finally a reason to buy a conduit bender!  Not bad for my first bends!

Mock up of placement of handle

For a while I thought I was making a chopper!

Placement of 1" conduit to hold 3/4" conduit boom

Laser cut 1/4" MDF glued together to make brackets

Starting to make it look pretty

First time setting the boom portion into the holder

I decided to run the 50mm hose through the hose dock

I used a hole saw to cut hole and bring out the back

Plenty of room for systainer

Finished product!  I love it!

Cool.    For a bit there it looked like you were putting dual exhaust on your CT   [big grin]

BTW the BoomBoom  decal is mint.  Nice job!

Nice Job!

I like how you routed the 50mm hose through the hose garage.
How did you cut the plastic on your hose garage?

Thanks Jeff.  I used a hole saw.  It was really simple.  The electric cord is in there too.

Nice job.  You should put a 90 degree bend vac fitting on the front of the vac.  That way you won't have the 10-15" of hose coil sticking out from the face of the unit.

I was wondering if they made such a product.  Where can I get one of those? PVC?

Thx Julian

I think it was at Lowes that I found in the shopvac section a brush that came with a 90 degree elbow. Might have been HD. The elbow fit the CT22 port perfectly. Never used the brush. Think it cost $8-10.

Very nice! Well thought out, and well done.
The boom boom decal is mint!

How much does the 50mm hose help?

Isn't that like patent infringement or somethin'?  ;)
Just kiddin', nice build. Just one question...where's the nitrous bottle mount?
One suggestion; you need to seriously consider a set of mags with knock offs and maybe some fatty fat tires on the rear. Maybe wrinkle walls? :)

Lazer cutter? Why I ought'a....doesn't Festool make one of them that folds up into a Systainer 4?

Nice set-up.  It has never made sense to me why the boom arm is mounted on the back and the hose port is on the front.  Would it be possible to mount a boom arm to the front of the vacuum?

Tim,

Question about the clamps on the Boom-Boom... what are they and/or where did you get them??

Really nice work; the paint job and the Boom-Boom on the clamp are a nice flair.

The black clamps on the boom part of the "BoomBoom" [smile] are 1 1/4" conduit hangers.  Got them at Menards for like $1.50 for a two pack.  HD and Lowes has them too.

Haha...funny you mentioned that.  I actually made a Festool logo plate as well but figured I better not mount it.  Wouldn't want to disturb the Festool Gods.  I opted for just using the "BoomBoom" logo I created.

Thanks for the compliment.  Not sure if the 50mm hose helps or not.  It was an extra hose that came with a Ridgid Shop Vac from Home Depot.  It fit so I used It.  Plus, I noticed that the Festool boom arm came with a 5' section of 50mm.

Can't hurt I guess

Ok, I used my homemade boom arm with my ct26 this weekend for the first time.  Now I know why anti static hose is all the rage.  Apparently, the small section of 50mm hose that I used isn't anti static!  I kept on getting shocked!!! [scared]

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?  I remember when I made my cyclone people posted that they ran some inconspicuous wire around the hose that help ground the static.  Or do I just need to buy a small section of Festool anti static 50mm hose?  Where can I get this if so?

By the way...I'm not talking a small zap.  My hair is still on end! [eek]

P.S.  I have to say that the boom arm/dust extractor with the TS55 is single handedly the best part of my shop!  The TS55 was awesome before but now is just beyond the best tool out there!  I also have to say to anyone who is interested in a boom arm that thinks that the cost just isn't worth it...It sooooo is!

You can either contact Festool or your dealer and order two (2) of the Festool D50 Rotating Connectors and the length of D50 hose from the Festool Boom Arm -- part number 452386 D 50 MW-AS.

On Edit:   Oh, and you will also need a Hose Connector to connect your existing hose with this new additional section of D50.
