Then you really ought to build a tree house.

My 8 year old son and I started this project exactly 4 days before school started back up.

We call it Twisted Timber Lodge, because most of the materials are reclaimed from our (120 year old) barn demo a few years ago when we built our production shop. This is all the material that didn't get used on that (and all of our) previous builds.

As soon as this is done, I think I may have to build another.

Anyone else had this problem?

Excellent!  That's really cool.  And it looks like you ran electricity to it.  How about running water?!

For inspiration, I have been watching the show Treehouse Masters and it's amazing what they build.  Might give you some ideas (but blow your budget) for the next one!

A 100 ft extension cord off our shop outdoor outlets is the main power source.

However, the photo of it lit up at night is a Syslite on low setting. It'll hang like a chandelier in the vaulted ceiling!

And I agree, Tree House Masters is badass!

Thanks, Mike. It is mostly reclaimed. I did buy pt for the deck system and the decking itself, but thats about it.

Thanks, Don. He is very excited about it and loves hanging out there, as do I. We are almost totally buttoned up on the exterior. I have been finalizing windows (restoring old sash and installing plexiglass), still have to build the door and a funky triangle shaped opening at the roofline where it notches around the tree. Then a rail system and a set of steps. Then the interior, which will be even higher quality...

So I have friction fit every scrap of rigid foam insulation and fiberglass that I own into the walls and begun hanging planks inside. Good rainy weather project.

The lower window is an old old sash that I restored and installed plexiglass in, complete with glazier points. It slides completely into the wall pocket and is screened in the opening. A rustic pocket window.

Viewing tax…..LOL !    My best bud from high school has family that lives in Dunbarton New Hampshire.  His dad was driving us to a golf coarse, slowed down to show us a very nice house with a VERY nice view.  And he asked us how much we thought they payed for the viewing tax  !        Then he showed us a UGLY house with a nice view and said " I bet the viewing tax is preventing them from upgrading the exterior. "    LOL

I didn't believe him for the longest time.

Thanks, Eric, I appreciate that. This project has already been one of the best things my son and I have every done together, and it's not even done yet. Definitely built for the long haul.

Yes, the view tax is for real. We are in the fortunate position of having a view of 2 of our state's 4000 footers right from the front porch. They do it by the district. Certain districts have certain views, and pay for them. What a racket.
