Ignore User Options

Hello Everyone,
Some people have requested that we have an option to ignore certain users.  In response, I have installed an "Ignore User Options" feature to the forum.

This feature allows every member to create an "ignore list" of other members.  When a member appears on your "ignore list" his or her messages will simply be invisible to you.

Nearly 100% of the time, we don't need this option.  But on those rare occasions when it's necessary to ignore someone, this feature offers a quiet way to do it.

Here's how to access it:
1. Click on the "PROFILE" link in the main menu at the top of the Forum screen.
2. In the profile section, click on "Ignore user options" on the left side of the screen.  Refer to the graphic below:

3. In the window to the right, type the user names of people you wish to ignore.  Follow the instructions on the page when entering names.
4. When you're done, click the "Change profile" button.

Note that going to this area of the forum also allows you to see which members have you on their ignore lists!

Feel free to ask questions or offer comments.

Good Afternoon,
In response to recent untoward activities in the forum, I am considering reviving the "Ignore User" feature of this forum, as described above.  My only qualms about the feature is that sometimes people set someone to "ignore" by accident, which is why I uninstalled it earlier this year.

But perhaps the benefits of the feature outweigh the risks?

Here's a discussion where I outline the risks: click here.

Anyway, if people want me to bring back the "ignore" feature, I'll do it.

Thanks,
Matthew

Matthew,
I don't particularly care for the ignore user option since if you are following a thread, you are bound to get confused at some point.  This happens regardless of how ridiculous some of the posts can be.

What would be nice is an "ignore thread" option that would filter it from the Recent Posts portion of the info center.  I always look at threads from that portion of the site and it would be helpful to eliminate some of the non-relevant clutter that has filled many forums of late.
