What do you think of having some sort of IM system available where if you saw any particular member as being online reviewing a particular post or section, you could send an IM to them if needed or desired?  Not a big deal at all but I thought it might be cool so see someone online and send them an IM instead of a pm.  The recipient need not answer if they don't want but I feel that having been a member for over a year, there are certain regulars who we would consider as friends by this point.  Just an idea...

Might be good, but confusing. I don't know if I can handle that level of bandwidth into my head.

I think you already can send IM's, but via MSN/Yahoo rather than the forum software. I've put my MSN ID into my profile, so it should appear as an icon to the left of this message.

Edit:

Well, I just clicked on the MSN icon, but it didn't do what I expected it to!!! Oh well.

If you send a PM to someone who is online, the person on the other end can receive a "popup" saying that a message has been sent.  This, in effect, is like an IM.

I didn't know this, and hunted it down.

The option is in Profile/Personal Message Options.
