image resizing upon upload - limit width

I think it would be nice to include, in the image upload process, a resizing script so that images can't be wider than, say, 600 pixels. Imagemagick is free and has scripting that works well for that sort of thing.

The software obviously has a pixel width limit for posts because when images are included that exceed that limit, a horizontal scroll bar appears. This would prevent having to scroll up and down AND sideways to see what is in the image.

It adds no value to the post to include such huge images. It takes unnecessary bandwidth and computing power plus it makes the posts unwieldy for the reader.

I agree that it would be good to limit the width.  But these most (real) computer screens that people use can display more than 600 pixels horizontally .  How about a limit of 1000 pixels?

Guys, there was a script that auto-resized uploaded images. I had turned it off temporarily for troubleshooting a problem. When I went to re-enable it there was an error and I haven't had a chance to sort it out yet.

yes shane chop chop [tongue].
i would love this 2 . what drives me mad is when text and images are in that box that you have to scrole up and down and over and back  to see the pic and to read all the text. i think all pics should be limited to the size of gap between the scrole bar and stripe along the edge( sorry to all ye people who spend years learning the proper names) with avitars and names etc.
