Imperial ruler for TS 55

Would anyone else like to have an imperial ruler for their TS 55?  I am a graphic designer for my fathers trophy business and I run a laser cutter/engraver.  I am going to make a new ruler to replace the metric one because I am metrically challenged.  I would be happy to make one for anyone else that is interested.  The material that I am using is an all weather foil used in the trophy/engraving industry and is very durable.  

If I can convince my wife that getting a new OF 1400 to replace my Rigid, I will make an imperial ruler for that too.  So far the only positive response for converting all my tools to Festool is that she likes the color!  Oh well at least there is one positive.  I however see no positive side to adding shoes to her 120 plus pair she has.

Here is the finished product. I have mounted the (imperial only) ruler to my ts55 but I also made a metric and imperial version for anyone who wants one.  I have mounted mine directly over top the metric ruler but for those of you who want to allow for the thickness of the guide rail, just simply mount it a little bit higher to allow for that thickness.  I may change mine once I try out cutting some material.

Tim, that sounds like a great idea, but I am trying to be a metric convert as much as possible.  Maybe when I see what you produce, I'd go for it.  I just can't offer a definitive "yes".

Sounds like a step backwards to me.   You should bite the bullet and use Metric.  [poke]  [big grin]

One of the most attractive things about Festool for me is the fact that all the measurements on the tools are metric.  It's too bad that they regress to soft Imperial conversion in many places in their North American catalogue but, even there with their soft Imperial conversion, the thing that really matters is the Metric measurements.

Call me a yankee but I guess I like all the numberless lines in imperial rulers.  I wish I would have learned metric as a kid, now I am just to dang stubborn to learn! Thanks for the quick response guys.  Those of you who do want a ruler, send me a PM.

Maybe you could make a dual metric - imperial rule.  I have one on my cabinet saw fence.  I work in both modes.

An offset one for the guide rail thickness would a nice feature also.

Nice call cdconey!  I will put both metric and imperial on the ruler.  I don't see why that wouldn't work.  That way we don't offend the euro-festoolers out there! haha

I find that you really don't need the measurements on the tools.  For the 55 just position the rail on the edge of the piece being cut and lower the saw to the table.  Increase the depth a couple of notches and you are good to go.  The router depth can be set the same way - position the router bit on the surface and use a guage of the depth desired.

But, it is nice, no a requirement for me to double check my cut depth so that I don't do any more dumb too deep cuts!!!

I'd find it handy - I'm always getting ready to cut and then remember to check the depth and it's a pain to have to reset to get the saw edge to edge of the stock.

I'd say make the scales with the depth allowance of the rail already calculated into the number.

What's the point of having it read the depth from the saw base - who uses these saws NOT on the rail?

I have been using the TS 55 for about a year now and this should explain why I want to make an imperial ruler; is the metric ruler on the TS 55 adjusted to allow the height for the guide rail?  I guess I never tried to figure it out.  It's just a guessing game for me until the blade sticks down below the stock that I am cutting.  You would think that I could remember the number for the typical 1/2" and 3/4" stock that I usually cut! Not so much!Haha
