This Christmas is my first gulp of the green kool-aid. Santa was nice enough to bring me (along with a TS75 - Arrrr arrrr arrr :-) an LR 32 Hole Drilling Set In Systainer - 584100.  I was wondering if anyone could point me to a resource where I could find what all the bits and pieces are for? Sure some of them are obvious, but others - not so much...

You might want to have a look through Brice Burrell's LR 32 tutorial, attached.

Just a few thoughts: Do you already own a Festool OF1010 or OF1400 plunge router?

Normally Festool supplies a 1900mm (75") guide rail with the TS75. They do not make a Holy 1900mm rail.

To use your LR32 set you will need at least a 55" (1400mm) Holy rail and either an OF1010 or OF1400 router. The LR32 system does not support any other routers and is pointless without a Holy rail.

By all means download that supplemental manual. It is very useful.

I do not (yet) own a Festool Router, but I have a birthday coming up real soon.

;-)

I got both the 55" and the 96" Holy Rails. (I did the 'delete' thing on the 75" rail, thanks to the suggestion of others here based on my first post).

I was under the impression that you could use the set with most routers? Was I mistaken about that?

Going to do that right now - thanks!

What great presents.  The LR-32 set is designed for the Festool 11400 routers.  You might be able to get another brand router mounted but that will be hit or miss.  Additionally, with another brand of router you might have a hard time using the Festool bits due to the 8mm shank size.

You might have a really exciting birthday!

Eric (erock) did a great video on using the LR32 system. You can search this site and find it. I use it as a referance anytime I havent used my system for a while.

My one and only active brain cell has a limited memory capacity so I rely on peoples input here .

I am not sure if this is your first post here (one active brain cell thing again) but if it is then

[welcome] to the FOG

Here is one of my favorite videos on the LR-32 (although there are several great ones out there)  I certainly found that in the case of the LR-32 real life visible instruction far surpasses the instructions.

On youtube MrBigerock has done a brilliant series of vids on Building kitchen cabinets, which uses the LR32 to great effect. I'm sure he has posted it on here, I just cant find it at the moment.

Edit: Doh, I need to keep off the Christmas spirit, If you look up Erock as per Jobsworth post, he is the same guy I was thinking of. Well worth watching

Here's Eric's youtube channel, he's got plenty of great videos featuring the Festool LR32 system.

If you're getting one or the other of the OF1010 / OF1400, get the OF1400.  It's a fabulous router by itself, and it fits both the LR32 and the CMS.  I have all of the Festool routers (MFK700, OF1400, and OF2200), except the OF1010, as I see no reason to have an OF1010.

I was in the same situation with all the routers except the OF 1010 and thought I had no need for the little guy - that is until I had the opportunity to buy one on the reconditioned sale.  It's just superb with both the LR 32 and my Leigh 18" Superjig for dovetails.  The OF 1010 has really earned its way into the Systainer stack.

If I am not mistaken, the mounting plate in the kit that I got is the same as that in the LR 32 Hole Drilling Set that doesn't come in a sustainer, correct? If so, the web page for that product clearly states:

LR 32 Hole Drilling Set - 583290
Guide plate, centering mandrel, linear stops and two edge stops for drilling.European 32 mm grid pattern holes in shelves and cabinets. Guide rail and bits sold separately.
Most plunge routers can be used
Centering Mandrel is included
Guide Plate, Centering Mandrel, Linear Stops and 2 Edge Stops for parrallel guideance
Adjustable guides on plate can reduce the slop from plate to rail - adjust so there is little to no play.

I based my decision on this - did I make a mistake? If Festool screwed up with their description, I would be happy to accept an OF1400 to compensate me for my pain and suffering over this incident.

;D

That phrase relates to Festool plunge routers.  The 1400 and the 1010 in particular.

Good luck on getting a free 1400  [big grin] [big grin] [big grin] [big grin] [big grin]

I certainly didn't read it that way - honest. That definitely needs to be clearer.

And I don't like your comment either ("Good luck on getting a free 1400") so I'm gonna go ask Shane! "Shane, Peter isn't playing nice...."
