Shane,

My vote is for the MFT, the routers, and then the Domino, in that order.

Fred

I don't see a way to vote in this poll... am I missing something (did the poll expire)?  I just see poll results.

Sorry, I must have accidentally locked the poll.  Doh!

(The view results and lock poll are adjacent and apparently my mousing accuracy is off today).  :-[

1-MFT - set up, tricks, how to get the most out of it
2-Domino - same as above but I would like to see the most common applications and how far it can be pushed
3-Routers - same as above, features, base plates
4-TS saws - same as above, how to cut thin stock
5-Kapex  - same as above, laser setup, setting up accurately and keeping it that way
6-Sanders - sandpaper

i think you ought to add an option for accessories.  Those mysterious and expensive items that are tempting but not justifiable unless one sees the full potential.  I am thinking particularly of the MFS, the router template and the parallel guides.

Dane,

Great point and I contemplated including accessories as a separate option.  However, I thought the best thing would be to just include the accompanying accessories with the tool category.  So, the parallel guides (for which there is already a video) would be lumped in with the plunge saws.  The MFS would be included with the routers.  Even with that being said, there are some accessories that are complex enough that they may warrant their own video.  I was just looking for feedback from a broader level.  We once we get a consensus, we can always zero in on the specifics.

I think this is the first step in helping us decipher what you guys are most interested in.  I hope that we see more participation in the poll even though there is already a clear trend emerging.  We genuinely appreciate the participate by all of the members of the forum and hope that this will lead to better information in the end to help answer questions.

Thank you Festool for listening to us! Your efforts in keeping us happy makes it way easier to justify the higher cost of your tools.

I'm looking forward to the instructional videos!!!!

Shane,
I composed but did not send a response to the original post re training materials and classes. I thought it too long and complex for this kind of forum. In previous lives (amongst other things) I have been a wood/metal shop teacher and I've designed and implemented several practical training programs in shop, business and IT. I know I get verbose (too many wordys not enuff pix) hence I did not send the post. I'm sure it would also have opened up a whole new debate on the process rather than the end products.
It came down to having a dynamic (means that it is not set in stone as things develop!) matrix of resources. In simple terms a column for each kind of tool, and rows for skill level (from pre-purchase to pro). Within that structure you could have video, books, PDF materials, training classes, online or in-person demos and whatever else is appropriate. The structure should also be published in a single location (website) for reference, even though the actual materials may be elsewhere. (Sounds a bit like a cross referencing of the FOG !) It also solves the problems of shared items like the guide rail.
The question in the poll is "what do we want to see more video of."
My response is, "what video is already available, and where can I find it?"

Steve,

The videos that have been produced by Festool thus far have not been instructional.  They have been product spotlights.  Each can be found on the associated product page on the website and not all of the tools have video.  Maybe my wording should have been different.  In essence, if we create instructional videos, which product(s) would you most like to see featured.  Sorry if there was any insinuation that other instructional videos already existed that were produced by Festool.

Also, we already have several existing training curricula that are available to our dealers including some reference materials.  However, a large segment of the training is also spent in the hands-on application room actually using the tools and watching application demonstrations.

Thanks for the question.

We need more responses!!!!!!!!! >:(

Yeah, more feedback is needed to get this off the ground. All forums go through an ebb and flow in activity, we're in the low end now so I don't expect a lot of responses. Come fall activity usually picks back up again.

Shane, I don't know if material you have for dealers would be appropriate for end users. My thoughts are maybe these videos could be made available as a starting point. Users could comment on what they like in the videos and what they would like to see that wasn't in the videos. If what you already have isn't appropriate maybe you could shoot video like you did for the parallel guides, a Festool trainer just doing his demo. Nothing fancy and only the minimum of editing, upload them to you-tube and you can keep the cost down to almost nothing. Just a thought.

BTW, you guys should search youtube once in awhile, here's a video of the MFT/3.

I think most Instructional videos are weak,  Incra makes a good one for the LS but that is limited application tool.
If you decide to make them, please use the same approach that you build your tools not your supplemental books :-\.

1.  A focus on detail.  Festool seems to engineer into their products a SYSTEM approach.  Many of your accessories have a protrusion or hole that makes no sense to the end user, but actually preform a different function with another tool.  If your users are aware of this they can incorporate new and potentially better methods.

One example begs to be mentioned is on the TS 55
Step A. Lock the blade with the fast fix.
Step B.  Slide up the depth stop.
Your saw is now properly set to cut 3/4" sheet goods.

2.  Focus on the "high end"  if you explore the more challenging applications, most of the folks who buy your tools can use that knowledge for their lesser projects.  The fact is, not many beginning  woodworkers are buying Festool  (Fog probably has a disproportionate share  of "newbies",  Demonstrating, that if you are smart enough to invest in good tools you are smart enough to find answers) ;)

3.  Focus on each of your groups
3.1  High end hobbyists  (these guys are producing great pieces of furniture, Traditional woodworking for pleasure. Open their vision by showing HOW Festool makes the complex, simple)  Focus on the individual tool.

3.2 Pros  (they have special applications, festool has the answer. They know how to use a router, Show them the "SYSTEM").

3.21  Show the counter top fabricator  WHY  the TS55,  OF2200, MFT's, Trion, CT22,  Pimped out OF1010, and Rotex together, make the best on site counter top fabrication solution for BOTH LAMINATE AND SOLID SURFACE.  Make the video  at an actual home in a kitchen that has a goofy layout,  out of square walls,  no room,  and a client who is a NEAT freak.
Show how they can make perfect butt splices in laminate with the saw and rail quickly, or cut the face and the top with a 45 bevel for BETTER seamless wrap around.

Show time stamps so the viewers can judge for them selves if the system is FASTER than what they are doing

Show how much SMARTER having ALL tools in systainers is to set up, clean up and wrap up.

3.22  Cabinet  Pros (they are all about Speed and Accuracy. Show HOW the Festool "SYSTEM" is Better Faster and Smarter than competing methods of cabinetry construction)

BY educating us on method of work, the Festool way,  your Professional clientele  can appreciate the VALUE ADDED SOLUTION you offer.

Thanks for swimming  this ocean of a post Craig

Shane:
            The video idea is outstanding.
my preference list is,  1 MFT
                                  2 TS saws
and  3 accessories ( of these two)
then another pair of items followed by a related accessories
and so on.

Excellent points!  I 100% agree with you.

For an additional point to consider that is not listed in your polling option, at least a short brief on the MFS.  I think that with some ingenuity, this can possibly be one of, if not the biggest, extensions to one's router.  There are a lot of interesting applications outside of just routing as well (e.g. workholding, fixtures, jigs, etc) that cn be explored.  I think it is under utilized by virtually everyone, myself included!

hi shane, as a recent owner of a festool cms, i would love to see video about this product and its accessories. i have googled, youtubed, cannot find anything on this fantastic product. and as it is coming to the US soon, it would be great marketing to show video of it now!

1. CMS
2. DOMINO
3. ROUTER ACCESSORIES
4. MFT + ACCESSORIES

regards, justin.

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to vote and/or provide feedback.  I must say that I would have expected more votes.  So, if you haven't voted, please do.

@Justin, regarding the CMS... unfortunately any videos that we (Festool USA) would create would be for products currently available in our market.  That would exclude the CMS.  I can certainly pass along the feedback to our friends in Europe.
