Yes Please, Thank you for this thread. I need help on this one. I've been commissioned to make a 10 seater dining room table for an Italian client here in Cape Town, South Africa, for their new home.
The brief is simple - must be made from two contrasting solid woods, He likes the idea of the legs coming up flush with the table top (he saw it somewhere), and the design as a whole must lend itself to the typical Italian style of everyone visiting around the dining room table.

I'm so out of ideas on this. I can't come up with one original idea to make a truly special piece. Budget for this is not an issue. It's a gift for his wife.
