Interface Pad for Rotex

This might be a dumb question, but does the interface pad attach to one of the existing pads (soft or hard) on the Rotex and ETS sanders with hook & loop?  Just trying to figure out how it works.  Also, has anyone had success sanding concave surfaces with it -- think the inside of a sculpted seat?  How durable is it?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Yes, it hooks to your pad. I've used it on a convex surface with great results, never tried it on concave, but one of the FOG members posted about using it to sand a wooden shield he made for his son (don't remember who it was, doh).

It's made of a cellulose sponge-like material. So, it's as durable as you might expect for that sort of material. Just depends on how rough you are on it and the amount of pressure applied.

I used mine today for the first time to polish and it was really useful. I put it on between 320 grit Brilliant and a hard pad and then worked my way up through Platin 2 pads. It's really comfortable and the Rotex just floats across the surface. I think it is fairly durable but be careful when you pull it off the pad. You could get into quite a curve with it as it flexes a fair amount.

Richard.

Thanks, Richard.  I think it is going to be just the ticket.  Getting ready to build some sculpted Maloof inspired chairs with Charles Brock's plans and I needed to find something that would work with my Rotex or ETS to follow the RAS.
