Hi Guys

Thought I'd introduce myself as a newcomer to this forum.

I've been a hobby woodworker for many years and concentrate mainly on furniture. I have a a well set up workshop that contain many festool tools which includes Drill/Drivers, Router, ROS, Domino, Jigsaw, TS55, Kapex, etc, on the hand tool side I have a lovely set of Sauer & Stainer planes and some nice Blue Spruce goodies.

I reside in the UK and am an active member of WoodworkerUK.

Now I have my first question relating to Festool. At the moment my Kapex is on a homemade movable stand and has been for about 3 years, I feel that the stand is coming to the end of its useful life and have been looking at the Festool stand,

can anyone tell me if its worth the cost, over here it comes in at ?520.00

Thanks in advance

Waka

The short answer is yes! Absolutely - get it. It may be a bit pricey, but my experience has always been that a month after the fact, I find myself wondering why I ever hesitated and how did I survive before?

P.S. How about a few pics of your workshop - we love seeing them. Personally, I'm still looking for a workshop that is as stocked up on Festool as Mr DavidCBaker's in the States. Damn - he has a lot. Yes, I'm jealous.  [off topic]

Hi Waka,

[welcome] to the FOG.

Got the Kapex stand, its defiantly well worth it, Its in use most days and I really like it. Its easy to set up and strip down and transporting the Kapex is a easy. The scales are bang on ,once calibrated, its sturdy and easy to adjust. Also the extensions are compatible with other Festool bench products. There are some pics and posts on here somewhere.

As to the price, go to an independent dealer, as you cant get discounts of up to 20%. No one  will discount the tools but the dealers can give discounts on accessories.

Will you put your county on your profile as there are now a few active UK guys on here and its nice to know what part of the country you are from its easier to make local recommendations.

Best John

Hi Waka,

Great to have you here, look forward to your posts!  [welcome]

Cheers,

Hi Waka & welcome to the fog.

I see you on ukworkshops quite a bit.  I too would love to see some pics of your shop & in particular the tools you mentioned.  I recently got a Ray Iles A5 smoother, maybe you are familiar with his stuff.

Cheers, Woodguy.

I wonder if ray iles is related to Ashley iles. I have a set of chisels from him.

And welcome to the FOG. Have you seen the fogtainer thread? One week to go...

Welcome to the forum Waka. With a name like yours I would guess there only one place you could have come from    [smile]

Ashley Iles was Rays father.  When i say was, he died some time ago.

I probably should already know this but is the Kapex stand noted in the original post another NAINA item?

Yes, it has only recently been introduced in Europe. The previous version is still available here aswell, and is priced a bit higher than the one with the cart.

Thanks for the info its been useful, I'll have to investigate a good price.

Regarding photo's of the shop I'll get around to that when I get back from my hol's

Hi Waka,

Welcome to Festool land.

Personally I would not buy it, I could find better things to spend 520GBP on, if I did a lot of site work it would be a consideration.
I have just made a mock up for my Kapex stand ( picture to follow) to replace my Dewalt universal DE7023 mounted on a wheeled
frame, it worked pretty well but took up to much space.
