iPad iBooks vs Kindle Reader App?

So I use both apps on my iPad for reading books.  Some books are not available on iBooks so I go to the Kindle app for those.  I love the little things that iBooks has that Kindle doesn't like the actual page number and how many pages are left in a chapter.  Which Kindle app does not have.  For Kindle app I absolutely love I can read the same book on my iPad my old iPhone that I use as a Touch now and my Macbook which iBooks is only available on iPad and iTouches and iPhones.  Another perk about iBooks is I can save those book files to my ext hd which Kindle does not allow you to do.

So you iPad users that read books on this which app do you prefer and why?

I don't have either of them, I have a Sony Prs-650, but for an E-reader I will always prefer an E-Ink screen over a TFT screen because it's more comfortable to read and easier on the eyes. E-Ink screens have no refresh rate like TFT screens, and the visibility in sunlight is a lot better.

As for features, the iPad will rule there of course, it's almost a full blown computer. But for simply reading a book, how many extra features do you need?

Aha... I read over the fact that you meant the Kindle app. I thought you meant the Kindle reader. Sorry.

I have an iPad but use Kindle books application.  I have owned a Kindle since the first generation and like reading the Kindle better due to weight (I usually read lying down) and I have an Amazon Prime account so I borrow books.

I have both on my iPad (1st generation) and seem to use Kindle the most.  I think the reason is I find browsing the Amazon store better than browsing the iBook store.

If you haven't tried it yet take a look at the National Geographic app.  They have absolutely nailed it when it comes to using the technology in the best way to present the articles. More information than can be put in the paper articles.  Issues are included free if you are a paper subscriber or you can subscribe to the digital format.  Well worth a look.

I have only used Kindle app for my IPad. I like it except the page number issue ou mentioned.

I like the look of iBooks, but use the Kindle app almost exclusively.  Why?  It is easy to share books with my wife. We each have our own Apple ID and iTunes account, so we cannot share books from the iBook store.  As much as I love Apple products and have a ton of them, this really galls me.  Why don't they allow sharing between just two accounts.  That would protect their IC while making it convenient for a couple to share as we would with a printed book.  Consequently I go to Kindle.  BTW, if you have not tried the Overdrive App, I recommend it.  It allows you to borrow ebooks from your library all done on line.

Those people who have a computer (Windows / Mac / Linux) at home can always use the free eBook management utility  Calibre. It is one of the best and most used utilities to manage your library. It can also convert between different formats, which might solve some compatibility or sharing issues.

I just discovered the Kindle app a couple days ago and used it get a book I could only get on Amazon. I used it on my iphone and I liked it. I do almost everything on my iphone and rarely use the computer. Don't have IPad but wife has a Nook tablet don't like using it seems hard to use. Rarely use IBooks but it has lots of options.

Can't get to work today but I like snow. I would be out with my truck and plow pushing snow but I sold my truck this summer to get a big van to have more room for Festools. Green koolaid makes us do funny things.

And it was a great book called Stone Message

Thanks Tim.

We were posted to Kingston in Canada in December 1981 and that was a pretty bad year for cold and snow. I remember, being a very keen junior officer, that I decided to clear the snow from the (very long) driveway the night before going to work to report to my new Commanding Officer. Needless to say, the driveway filled up again with snow the next day - I learnt a good lesson, for sure!

Thanks again for taking a look at the book. The picture was 2 years ago taken from the garden.

Wow.. Thanks!  I looked for something like that a long time ago and since abandon the idea.  My biggest problem is I don't want to be married to one device, and I hate having multiple apps to read books, but I purchase from several sources.  I'll have to give this a whirl.

+1 Calibre is really good !

The Kindle app on my android phone gives me both the actual book page number as well as the virutal page number of the current page on the phone, i.e. book page number 10 and phone page nbr 47.  Surprised that's not available on the iPad.
